If the casing is not installed on any window or door, this is an easy job. Use normal ...»
fiberglass insulation, ripping small, long pieces of it and shove it around the window. Use a prybar to push the insulation in the space between the jamb of the window and the jack stud.

Cedar shakes need to be finished with either a high quality stain or paint after installation. ...»
Also, during installation, stainless steel fasteners should be used to prevent black streak marks down the sides of your house. They do require alot of work, but you will probably have the nicest house on the block.

All storm doors include specific directions for installation. I have installed a ton of storm ...»
doors and always refer back to the directions. It helps when the exterior door you are attaching it to is correctly hung. Check for level throughout the installation. You will need a metal hacksaw, cordless drill and bits and standard hand tools to do this.

There are a few things you can do to keep the price of finishing this room down. Make sure ...»
the walls are clean of any nails, screws, etc. Insulate the walls if they aren't already. Go and pick up the material to get the job started. In this case, 13 boards of sheetrock and 2 tubs of spackle should do it. Get a few estimates from carpenters and compare pictures of previous work. Have the estimates include priming, the carpenters will thank you.

The best material for stair treads is simply the hardwood that it is constructed out of. I ...»
would stay with a joining hardwood floor that separates the two staircases. This keeps all the heights consistent throughout the whole area.

Sometimes, but only occasionally, there seems to be a leak at one edge of my toilet base.

Is this a bad gasket or something else?

You may have a bad wax ring under the toilet. If the bolts that hold the toilet down are ...»
loose, tighten them up but not too much. If that doesn't stop the leak, remove the toilet and you can install a new wax ring easily. Not a fun job.

A building permit is required for building a wrap around deck, which in turn, raises your ...»
taxes for starters. As far as the material costs, it varies depending on the decking material you desire. Composite decking is more expensive but requires less care than a natural wood decking. Get a few estimates and compare the two choices with each contractor.
