  • Ants lying in Windex. 3

ANTS? Easy, Safe Solution!

An exterminator told my friend that when you begin to see ants, they are the scouts. Stop these and you won't have ants. My son discovered that if you spray them with Windex (or any other glass cleaner), they are exterminated. Keep after it for a while and you won't have ants. We have used this for years. 2 days ago our humming bird feeder leaked onto the concrete front porch...the liquid got down in the crack between brick and concrete so there was not way to flush it out. Ants ...»
appeared quickly, I sprayed them with Windex. Watched through the day and kept spraying them. Now ant free! Safe for kids, pets and environment! It is worth a try before you spend hundreds.

I had heard of vinegar but never Windex. Won't hurt to try it. Thanks for sharing.

  • What kind of flower is this?

Gardening: Can anyone identify these flowers?

On a recent trip to the Dallas Arboretum, I snapped a photo of these gorgeous flowers. Unfortunately, they didn't label them. Does anyone know what they are?

  • Name this plant!
  • Take your light and check it out closely as some are different. 1
  • By the bulb you should see some small screws
  • Remove the screws and SLOWLY pull the pieces apart. You will then see a normal, everyday, single AA battery. Yep, that is what gets charged by the sun during the day so that it glows at night! 2
  • Change the battery out with a new one and...Let there be light! 2
  • Now, if you have a different type of light, say like this one from WalMart, with the globe on top, it gets even easier to replace the battery.
  • Kathe With An E~DIY Fix Your Solar Lights
Simply pull the stake out and you will see this on the globe end.
  • One single screw. Leave the three screws by the bulb alone.
  • And there is your battery. Change it out, put the screw back in and you are done!

  • I did the whole 10 X 12 room for about $80, but any future room will cost about $30. That's cheap flooring! 11

  • This mirror is actually a lazy susan hung on the garden gate. Chickadee has a new best friend. 10

Using Mirrors In The Garden

I use mirrors in the garden to add interest and give the impression that I have double the plants! For large mirrors, I use old mirrored shower doors. They're water resistant and hold up ...»
year round. For bird safety, the mirrors are placed parallel to bird flight paths in my narrow side garden. In open areas, I cover the larger mirrors with lattice. There's more details on my blog. http://www.empressofdirt.net/using-mirrors-i...

  • The doors from the middle were missing and the drawers were all painted with an animal print.
  • It's heavy and a nice size.
  • The handles were typical bedroom style.
  • The new handles are leather luggage straps with Texas Ranger stars through the luggage straps and the old holes. No drilling.

The perfect entertainment set (on a budget)

After moving to a new home, we couldn't figure out quite what to do about the free floating TV on the wall... it needed something to anchor it down visually, but an expensive ...»
entertainment set wasn't going to happen anytime soon. SO.. off to the garage sales. This well built dresser was $20! It had 3 animal print drawers that went away. Hubby made some inserts to act as shelves for the middle and drilled some holes behind the side drawers for cords. Distressing with some sandpaper, spray painting the middle black, adding some new drawer handles.(more on the photo) A light coat of polyurethane all over and into the living room!
