About Me:

I am a retired French teacher who loves thrifting, decorating, gardening and traveling...with a French accent!

Favorite area of home improvement:

I love creating a vintage French look by recycling and repurposing my thrifting finds! See the tutorial tab on my blog for tons of examples!

Recent Activity

  • A vintage-look monogram, some stain and legs transform an old cutting board to an elegant serving board or trivet.
  • An old cutting board...the more battered the better...some baseboard corner posts and some stain complete the transformation.
  • I used a sharpie marker to create the monogram, gave it a vintage look by sanding it and them finished it with stain.
  • It starred as the platform for my centerpiece in my Thanksgiving tablescape.

Ugly Dirty Insanely Heavy Aqua Vintage Table Makeover

A friend of mine was giving this away, and when I came to pick it up I could see why. The table was scratched, absolutely filthy (which took forever to clean because of the carving) and ...»
it weighed a thousand pounds. It took three people just to get it in the car! Once it was cleaned up I painted it with aqua DIY chalkpaint, glazed it with a brown paint mixture, shined up the hardware, and coated it in clear wax. I might be keeping this bad boy simply for the fact that no one will be able to lift it out of here! I think this aqua table looks pretty good right where it is!

An Inexpensive Way to Hide All Those Tools

My husband wanted a new tool chest for all his new tools, but I wasn't willing to shell out $400 for a brand new one. Instead, we got creative with what we had. We have a basement full of ...»
unpainted furniture that I haven't gotten around to painting yet, and this dresser was the perfect fit for a tool chest.

We removed the bottom drawers and dividers and replaced them with two doors. This gives a larger space to store our bigger tools and still keeps them hidden away. After all the building portion was done, I gave it a fresh coat of paint and updated the door and drawer pulls. #BeforeandAfter

  • This quirky, double wide sized pallet wood chair is all decked out, ready for a great summer read.
  • Two pallets, 4 legs and two armrest boards are really all it took. So easy! The trick is to ensure you find two pallets that are similar in size.
  • Let's add more quirk to make it totally yours! This signboard was used as an armrest. Note how wide the board is... perfect for my coffee cup. Priorities here...
  • This leg has an antique level attached. This project is a little like 'Where's Waldo's Wild Additions?'
  • Pallet markings were celebrated by placing them in prominent places. Coffee bean sacks acting like large pillow cases were just tucked in place. No sewing required. 2
  • For the legs, a little bracing was required inside the pallet so the leg had something to stabilize against.
  • Tell me that isn't one big cool chair to curl up in! But let's add some comfort...
  • 5" foam cut to size (new from a foam shop) was key for the ultimate comfort.
  • This is a pallet SOFA I made last year, decked out in total bohemian style craziness. The build is much more size customized: http://www.funkyjunkinteriors.net/2011/08/how-i-built-pallet-sofa-part-2.html

My French Country Guest Bath...with Drapery Panels as a Shower Curtain!

I like my bathrooms to look like just another room in the house and in my case that means French Country decor and plates on the wall. A pair of buffalo check drapery panels as a shower ...»
curtain (with a liner behind them), dark fixtures and some French prints finish off the look. A few wreaths were added for a Christmas touch. I feel transported to la Belle Epoque each time I walk by! :-)
