Man Cave Makeover

We recently made some changes to our family room, better known as my husband's "man cave". The room went from orange to neutral shade that complimented our dark furniture better. The ...»
movie posters stayed as they're our favorite part of the room. I am pleased that we have a room that we both can enjoy. I tried to create room that would be comfortable to us both; a masculine room with a feminine touch.

  • We labeled all of the squares so we would know what we planted. Once the garden started producing, we add flowers and fresh vegetables until the first frost. Success!!!

Gardening: Landscaping Questions

I have this area beside my deck and behind my garage that I need advice on what to do. The area to the left is my neighbors yard(stones are about the divide line) This is a light traffice ...»
section of our house, the traffice can be reirected by using the deck(on the right/behind the wood fence) I usually throw down mulch(every year) and it is always gone by the next spring. We have major maple tress that throw down the red things and helicopters not to mention the leaves, this is why the mulch never stays. The area behind the garage faces my neighbors back yard and I wouuld love to have it not be an eye sore for them. The dirt is very hard and the maple trees have roots that love to come to the top of the soil. HELP! What do you think would be a great fix for this area.

Maybe you could go to Lowe's or HD and get a mold and make a cement walkway. I have tried ...»
rocks in my yard and they just don't work when you have a lot of leaves. In order to blow the leaves out the force lifts the rocks up and blows them around with the leaves. It is really hard to get the leaves out of the rocks and if they get wet nearly impossible.

Gardening: How do I get grass out of a phlox bed?

This flower bed is extremely dense with phlox. Last year, I pulled much of the grass out by the roots, but it came back with a vengence this year. We've had a ton of rain in Virginia. ...»
Other than digging up ALL of the phlox, does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove the grass? The phlox is so thick that I can't get to the grass roots.

It is probably still cool enough in VA, that you could dig up all the phlox, remove the grass, ...»
put down newspaper and cardboard, cut holes in paper and replant the phlox, then mulch with a 3 inch depth. You would just have to water every day until they get established. I move plants all the time, just try to get a big root ball when you dig them up. Also, it should be easy to remove any grass in the plant once you have dug them up.

  • Here is a picture taken from my bench at the back of the garden looking towards the arbor. The fence is complete. Now on to making the garden look pretty. This will take awhile. 1
