  • use old newspapers (or book pages, maps or an atlas) as a creative wall covering
  • if you have an old wall or ceiling with imperfections that need hiding this could be the idea for you
  • just lay out your newspaper pages to make sure you get the look you're going for (I went all black and white with one random full color page)
  • make your own decopage for under $6 for the whole room.

Create a focal wall (that will hide imperfections) for less than $6!

I was in need of a relatively quick and extremely inexpensive idea to finish off the ceiling in a room that has a few old cracks in the plaster. I needed a solution that didn't require ...»
any power tools and wasn't going to take as much time as caulking and spackling and sanding and priming and painting. (That idea is just exhausting! Especially on the ceiling.) I had initially thought old book pages would work, but then I came across our bin of old newspapers ready to be recycled. With the help of my bff and a few hours we created an eclectic and unique focal wall. #recycle

Making a Fancy Boxed Wine Holder

The only problem with boxed wine is that it comes in an ugly cardboard box. The wine is great, but Jocie usually pours the wine into a carafe when we have guest over. Instead, I made her ...»
a snazzy boxed wine holder from pallet wood.

I used my table saw a lot for this project, ripping the pallet boards square and to length. I also created thin strips for braces to glue the boards together. The most difficult step was using a dado stack to create a tongue-and-groove so the backside could slide on and off.

Jocie stenciled that beautiful fleur de lis, and she applied a wax finish to seal the wood. I'm really pleased with how this turned out, and I know we'll be showing it off next chance we get.

Sew up the side seam. Decide on your stem {I used a stick cut to size} and wrap your stuffing around your stick. Fold down the top edge and stitch in and out again and cinch to close it up. Add a felt leaf for embellishment and you're all set!
