Three Step Reupholstery Project

For this project, I first refinished the chair with an oil-based gel paint (http://29ruehouse.blogspot.com/2013/03/using-oil-based-gel-paint.html), then I added the seat fabric ...»

Gorgeous fabric... I've been intending to try my hand at re-upholstery. Why not? ...»

The chairs that I'll be doing have brass nail heads all around the seats. Hmmm, have you ever attempted one like this before?? Your canadian Cousin Elayne

Create a Custom Indoor Herb Garden Design from Mason Jars

Wouldn't it be fantastic to have a custom indoor herb garden you could hang on your kitchen wall? ...»

This comes in handy when you don't have a ton of counter space. Plus, who doesn't like a pizza with fresh basil and mozzarella (I'm hoping some of you do!!).

This project was inspired by a blog post over at Camille Styles. I modified it a bit (with their permission) by creating an oil rubbed bronze & copper effect on a wood board.

This artistic touch could come in handy for any number of projects. It's a simple & inexpensive technique that you can do yourself.

You can then mount mason jars to the board with stainless steel clamps. This allows the jars to be removed and cleaned if you'd like to add different herbs over time. Way cool!!

So you get fresh herbs and a conversation piece that begs for bragging rights.

Here are some pics of the project for inspiration.

In case you're interested I put together a complete tutorial on how to do this. Here's the link http://www.homerepairtutor.com/custom-indoor...

P.S. Feel free to Pin this project onto Pinterest because other DIYers might like to try it ;)

  • A $2.50 wooden play kitchen from the thrift store gets a makeover!
  • I lined the doors with vintage fabric from a thrift store table cloth, and used cup hooks to hold thrift store measuring spoons.
  • It had potential, right?? Most people just walked right on by it. Good for ME!
  • I wanted something that wasn't too "girly" or too "kiddy." So I chose Annie Sloan Antibes Green, which gives it a retro feel. I kept the existing red handles. It worked with the colors!
  • I used Annie Sloan Napoleonic Blue inside, which was the perfect compliment to the Antibes Green. All the inside metal bowls came from the thrift store, as well.
  • Annie Sloan Napoleonic Blue. Isn't it a DIVINE color?!? Love it! Dries a shade darker.
  • Cup hooks on the side allow kids to store measuring spoons and a towel.
  • YUCK. That's all I can say. LOL
  • The plastic burner stickers were peeling off and in bad shape.
  • I removed the stickers and lightly sanded out the sticky parts.
  • I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut new vinyl burners. Easy!
  • I used Mod Podge to glue down panels for the door.
  • A close-up of the vintage table cloth used.
  • I had bought this from the thrift store about 6 months ago and had never used it. Was probably going to make pillows from it or something. But after starting this project, I realized this would be perfect for lining the doors.
  • I cut my own trim and glued it down to the doors with Gorilla Glue. See the blog post for a short video on how NOT t use Gorilla Glue ;)
  • There are my 3 boys playing with the new wooden play kitchen! Making "Cheeriors stew." LOL

BEFORE & AFTER: The Makeover of a Wooden Play Kitchen

I found this beat up wooden play kitchen from the thrift store for only $2.50! I knew immediately it could be beautiful! I didn't want it to be "girly" or "kiddie" so I chose Annie Sloan ...»
Antibes Green for the outside, and Annie Sloan Napoleonic Blue for the interior. I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut new vinyl burners, and I mitered trim to make panels on the door, which are Mod Podged with fabric from a vintage table cloth from the thrift store. I also added cup hooks to the side for measuring spoons (which are also from the thrift store!). For more pics and VIDEOS of the whole processes, with more detail, you can find it on the blog post. Enjoy!

Rock/Agate Slice Framed Art

Have some rocks or agate slices you don't know what to do with? Fill a frame or shadowbox! If doing a shadowbox, try clear velcro and if squeezing them into a regular frame, box tape works fine!

  • Finished project.
  • This is how it started out...the treasure from my thrifty treasure hunt.
  • I had to buy all of the other supplies, but I got them all for 40-50% off last weekend at JoAnn's.
  • More supplies from JoAnn's
  • Stones to weight down the pot and to help hold the topiary upright.
  • Dry run to make sure that all items are proportionally right.
  • Got my hi-tech paint booth ready.
  • This item had a bright brass finish on it. I sanded it down with steel wool and then painted it a very light green gloss.
  • Next came the flower pot...painted a flat white.
  • Cut the flowers that you are going to use off from the stems.
  • Start placing the flowers in the boxwood ball until you are satisfied with the placement. I did not glue these in place....I was thinking that I wanted to beable to change the topiary for the seasons.
  • Looking good....almost done.
  • I decided that the plain white pot needed some embellishment. I had the hand dyed silk ribbon on hand and then added the little star button.
  • The top was finished with a couple of dragonflies that I mounted on a piece of bullion wire....again I did not actually glue these on, but rather just buried the wire into the ball.

Hometalk DIY Spring topiary inspiration!!!

Alright so Hometalk has become a huge addiction for me. There is not oneday that goes by that I don't check in on the website at least once. ...»

I have been really liking all the "spring" decorating ideas. I decided to go to a local thrift shop (something I just never do...but that is a story for a different day) looking for anything that I could use to repurose into a "springy" idea for my house. This is the result: (sorry I have to look into getting a blog)
