  • Here is my tea pot fountain in full bloom. 7
  • We drilled a a hole in the tea pot and then threaded it. We attached flanges to a solid concrete block to support both the tea pot and the gold pan. The block is heavy enough to support the weight of the unit underwater. 5
  • We then built a support for the gold pan and dropped the unit into the whiskey barrel. We added a fountain pump and inserted tubing up through the tee on the bottom of the pipe that supports the tea pot and into the tea pot. 1
  • Add water and your done! The unit is free standing so it can be leveled and no holes are drilled in the whiskey barrel. I put it all away every winter and take it out and set it up in the spring. 1
  • Last year we poured a concrete base that the whiskey barrel sits on so it doesn't sink into the dirt. 1

Windows & Doors: Just had two casement windows installed in a wall that used to have a sliding glass door.

Turned out that the wall was not plumb. I took the handyman's advice to hang the windows level and plumb instead of following the lines of the wall. So now the windows look like they ...»
are hung crooked even though they are not. It is fairly bad on the inside but probably won't be too noticeable once the sheetrock in floated and wall textured and painted. But the outside looks like a fun house at the carnival. The exterior wall is brick, but the space around the windows was filled in with hardy board. I am thinking of having my handyman try reinstalling them somewhat off level to improve the looks. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Wimpy Potatoes

We are starting to get excited about our garden. Well, my husband was getting excited before Christmas even got here. Since I do the canning...the winter break is enjoyable for me. My question to you is this: Do any of you have trouble getting a good crop of potatoes? We have tried a couple of different methods of growing...but they just don't do very good. We have the normal garden that seems to take turns producing a bumber crop of various things from year to year. The potatoes just ...»
don't put on much of a show though. Any pointers? #gardening

I have had great success with growing potatoes. I have been doing it the last several years. ...»
The important thing I learned was making mounds. And as the plant matures, you continue to add dirt to the mound. Remember that even though the plant has died back and looks sickly, it's still growing potatoes under the dirt.
