About Me:

I'm a native of Chicago, IL but in the summer of 2008, I packed up a moving truck and relocated to the desert of Tucson, AZ. Then, in the winter of 2011, I began building a semi-custom home that I moved into the summer of 2012! My new house has twice the amount of space that my old condo did + it has a backyard and a garage to boot! More house means more furniture which means more money (that I don't have). So join me on my sweat equity journey as I turn my brand new, semi-custom house into a home without breaking the bank :)

Favorite area of home improvement:

I'm a sucker for furniture that's old and beat up. I like transforming the ugly into the pretty :)

Making Boxwood Wreaths for Christmas

When I couldn't find small, boxwood wreaths for Christmas, I bit the bullet and made my own. They were easy to do and I made 3 small wreaths for just $6. They now hang on my hutch in the kitchen. Instructions on my blog at the link provided.

  • Total cost for this mantel, $1 for the gold craft paint for the chalkboard frame. Using items I already had around my home I was able to pull this together. I love how the wreath makes such a statement! 2

Christmas Mantel

My neighbor was throwing out his old front door so I had him cut the top part off. With a little chalkboard paint and craft paint, I transformed the door top into an amazing chalkboard for my mantel!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas: {no sew} ombre ruffled Christmas tree skirt.

A family room makeover in progress deserves a new tree. Non traditional Christmas colors...hard to find a tree skirt that's not red and green. I whipped up a no-sew ruffled tree skirt and chose a teal ombre color scheme.

DIY No Sew Drop Cloth Ruffle Tree Skirt

There's something horrible that hides in my closet, something so heinous I only go inthere if it can't be avoided....what is it? My sewing machine! Luckily I didn't need it to create this cutey-patootey ruffle tree skirt!

  • My 2012 Thanksgiving Tablescape!
  • I built the centerpiece box and filled it with Spanish moss, some free pinecones, some dollar store faux foliage (say that 10 times fast...), and some LED candles (that are covered in real wax) that also came from the dollar store.
  • I placed some ceramic turkeys (that I spray painted orange to match the napkins) and pinecones at each end of the box to bring some more color to the table.
  • Details :)
  • Thanksgiving dinners are served buffet style in our house so I wasn't too worried about leaving room to set dishes down. However, we could always move the centerpiece to a sideboard or counter if we needed to make room for servingware!
  • I wanted the centerpiece to be the focal point of the table so I kept the place settings fairly simple.

Thanksgiving Tablescape

I don't usually decorate for Thanksgiving but I wanted to make the first Thanksgiving in our new house special. That being said, this was my first time creating a T-Day tablescape so go easy on me :)
