the bigger question(s) are a) budget b) time u will spend in the home ... it would be sad to ...»
update when not all factors are considered. bathrooms are hard to "update".. often at that age paint is the only thing that is worth changing.. otherwise its time to gut :( 53yrs is a good life...rich in fact for a bathroom!

Kitchens: The kitchen cabinets have pulled away from the ceiling, leaving a gap of approximately 1/4 inch.

Is this a structural problem that needs to be addressed or can we just fill it in with calk or plaster?

tile is best for longevity... but my personal preference is wood, especially in smaller homes ...»
where you are looking for uniformity. less is more. besides.. wood is soft. if you cook and put in tile.. buy a good pair of shoes

Flooring: Our kitchen floor is getting worn and we would like to replace it with tile or even food.

The adjoining room has dark hardwood..how hard is it to tie tile with the wood? If we go with a wooden floor...do we have to have the colors match exactley?

if you share a photo it may help.. but a bigger question to determine your answer is to know ...»
what your subfloor is .. assuming your floor is vinyl? remove a threshold and inspect what is under it and it will determine if the floors will transition smoothly with tile

Hi friends! I need to know if I can tear this wall down? I want to renovate my kitchen to give it more space and take that wall out of the way and have an open floor plan, but that wall, Im just not so sure about it.

warning.. from these photos 1) you cannot be 100% sure you can take it down. From my ...»
experience from evaluation of them.. Id so no, you cannot. The common rule in in home construction is that the ceiling joists run the shortest distance, so it is very likely that this wall holds a load. What is contradictory to this is that there are no headers on each open side - so either a) headers are buried to carry the load, or your home is built with full width trusses. So .. if you want a definitive answer - post pictures of the outside and up in the attic :)
