The existing space was dark and dated, to say the least. The owners wanted to keep the same general footprint as they appreciated the peninsula giving some division from the living space. To increase some privacy, in addition to create more visual interest - the new design included a 42" high wall with bookcases and storage.Pot rack was removed and a skylight was added along with new white trim/recessed cans - changing this kitchen from a dark, crowded room to a bright cheerful space where the homeowners love to prepare meals and entertain friends.Cabinetry was designed to go to the ceiling -- making the 8' ceilings feel much taller than the previous design offered with the cabinets stopping at the dated 7' height.

A hutch was added with a pocket door at the center for mail, electronic docking station. A coffee station is also concealed behind pocket doors near the microwave/oven.Double ovens were moved from being next to the refrigerator to the adjacent wall to allow for a more functional corner (left of refrigerator).The cooktop was originally in the island with inadequate downdraft ventilation. New design it was moved to the wall delivering better prep area on each side in addition giving an opportunity to have a full island with dressed up features.

Im not too worried abou the cracks - just want to clean this up and enjoy it! Its pretty short -- so not sure where I will use it yet, any ideas? advice? :)

These photos are from our cottage on the lake .... I removed all of the molding that covered the seams of the wall board. Then with a bucket of ready made drywall mud and a 6" knife I applied it all over the walls. No need to be perfect and you can apply it as heavy as you want. I did fill the seams of the wall board first, then just started applying throughout the whole room - getting as close to the trim as possible to give a natural look. Give 24 hours to dry completely before painting!

Then paint (see staged photos). Then I applied a translucent glaze that I purchased at Lowe's. Finished product is kind of tuscan looking stucco! Affordable and easy .. and its a pretty good workout for your upper body! :)

The area of cabinet removal is only 3'x10' which consists of 3 cabinets and a dishwasher. See photos.

The "specialists" want anywhere from $2500-5000 to remove the cabinets, the damaged subfloor and wall board behind the cabinets. Thereafter.. treat it. From my experiences.. this sounds ... exaggerated to say the least. They are playing on her fears because she has a child with allergies.

While the details are a little vague here... anyone have experience to justify this? My advice? removal .. treatment of this area could be done by an experienced handy man. Even treated with bleach and/or peroxide.
