Remodeling: Bathroom update???

I need to update a long and very narrow bathroom and keep the tub. Right now it has everything but the toilet in baby pink - ugh. I am willing to lose the linen closet and just have ...»
cabinet space, but all the pink, including the tiles on walls and floor must go. Any suggestions?

Home Maintenance & Repairs: Mold and Mildew in the Shower

I know this is a common problem but I cannot keep mold and or mildew out of my shower. I have a tub and a single unit wall surround that requires caulking between the two. I have caulked, ...»
removed caulk and re-caulked so many times all for not. Now I have a ceiling fan and two doors leading from my small bathroom and I always leave one door open (ceiling fan needs to be replaced as of recently) when taking a shower but I still have mold. Is there anything else out there that I can use? I'd used the caulk made for bathrooms/showers. Thanks

advice spot on thus far... ...»

to help you be more accountable? consider spending $15 and install a timer so the exhaust fan stays .. after you leave, and you dont have to worry about shutting it off! Home Depot has one.. http://thd.co/17ieFtZ

If these do not do the trick? may need to consider doing the math to find out if your fan is sized right for your bathroom. Knowing what the CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) rating is key. This site has a quick calculator to help you: http://www.ventingdirect.com/bath-exhaust-fa...

Flooring: Bathroom flooring

As most of you know, we are building a house and you have helped me through many decisions. I am working on flooring for master and guest bath. Let me tell you up front that I HATE grout ...»
and anything to do with it so that has put me in vinyl land. I just wanted to know if anyone has any advice when looking at vinyl flooring what to watch out for or stay away from.

Understand and feel your (painful) decision. May I suggest you look for "rectified" tile!? ...»
What this means is the tile has gone through more precise sizing during the manufacturing process so that you can have a near butt joint in your tile installation! Since your construction is new .. installation should be easier. Discuss this with your builder... better yet, the tile installer. Some installers charge just a little more because the underlayment/mud, etc must be perfect - otherwise its near impossible to hide the ups and downs.

Advantage... 1/16" grout line. Tile edges are square.. near perfect.

You might be surprised how a punch of color in small items changes your view of the space! ...»
Without knowing your preferred style, hard to direct exactly.. but here is a couple of things I would do ...

window film - yes! When choosing a style.. or color/pattern, keep in mind this will draw a lot of attention.

I can picture some towels on the edge - maybe a vibrant orange? Or a tall vase with a sprig of flowers in the back corner. Test yourself.. go buy something that is BOLD in color and watch how it transforms the room!

Not a big fan of rugs with a punch of color in the bathroom - all too often rugs look misplaced in a bathroom, meaning not balanced to the room so they draw negative attention. Besides.. its the floor, I say keep the eye interested up above!

Remodeling: Bathroom tile question

We are rennovating our bathroom... it is fairly small (6X8). Standing in the doorway the sink and toliet are to the left and straight ahead is the tub. I am wondering if we should do the same tile on the walls of the shower as we do on the floor of the bath. Attached is the before photo... the tub is now white and not surrounded by tile. Thanks!

Without question, for small spaces the rule of less is more! Add color or interest with small ...»
elements such as towels or artwork. If you want to change up the tile a little, maybe change the direction or pattern - but I would recommend the two tiles be really close in color.

Check out this new door hardware - hands free!

The door knob of the future. No arm twisting. No hand turning. Totally new concept for entry hardware designed to be the most convenient, practical and still be aesthetically pleasing! Retrofits to most existing door cutouts and a mere 1/2" of movement easily opens any door.

After sharing this information on my blog, the company contacted me and asked if I would like to test one out - I did not hesitate with YES! And I am pleased ...»

to say this handle is everything they say it is! I installed it on our garage door, the door we use 95% of the time. When we enter from the garage, you simply push the handle - with your hand, elbow or even your hip. Exiting it is a push down, with your hand, or if you hands are full - elbows do the trick too.
