This is the year y’all!

The year I keep more plants alive than I kill…

Well, I am hoping for the best at least!

Adam & I desperately want to plant (& keep alive) a garden this year.

My track record isn’t great, but I have been doing a lot of gardening research & feel more prepared than ever!

I can see success (& fresh vegetables) in our future, especially now that I have my newly built potting bench.

If keeping the plants alive is as easy as building this potting bench was, we will have no trouble at all!

All you need to build a potting bench of your own is $75, one day, & a few of my favorite WORKPRO Tools!

DIY Potting Bench Plans

Supplies:

-(8) 1x4x8

-(2) 1x4x10

-(4) 2x4x8

-Wood Glue

-2″ Nails

-2 & 2 1/2″ Screws

Tools:

-WORKPRO® Pneumatic Nail Gun

-Tape Measure

-WORKPRO® 20V Pink Cordless Drill

-WORKPRO® Clamps

-Sander

-WORKPRO® Pink Hot Glue Gun

-WORKPRO® Brushes

Building The Base:

I started by making all the necessary cuts for the base of the potting bench.

Cut:

(2) 2×4 @35-1/4″ for the front legs

(4) 2×4 @22″ for the side aprons

(2) 2×4 @61-1/2″ for the back legs

The back legs will both need a 45 degree bevel cut at one end.

Start by assembling each leg of the base.

Attach the first apron to connect the back & front legs.

Attach the apron 11 1/4″ from the bottom of the legs.

Inset the apron 1-1/2″ from the front of the short leg.

I used wood glue, my WORKPRO Drill & 2-1/2″ exterior screws to attach the aprons.

Once the lower apron is attached, add the second apron 35 1/4″ from the bottom.

Use the same inset as the first apron.

Make two of these legs total.

Attaching The Two Legs

Next cut (2) 1×4 @39″

These are the front aprons & will attach the two legs together in order to create the base.

I used my drill to attach the long aprons to the side aprons.

They should fit nicely right into the inset.

Adding The Shelf Boards

For the shelf boards, start by cutting (8) 1×4 @39″ & (10) 1×4 @42″.

Start by adding the bottom shelf boards, these are the ones cut to 39″.

I used my WORKPRO Pneumatic Nail Gun to make this part go super fast!

I attached each board with finishing nails & leaving a 1/2″ gap in-between boards.

Once the bottom shelf is installed you should have two 39″ boards left. Hold onto them we are gonna use those in a bit 😉

Moving onto the top shelf, start by attaching the back board which is one of the 39″ boards.

Next, add the rest of the shelf using the 42″ boards.

Y’all if you don’t have a WORKPRO Pneumatic nail gun this is your sign to get one asap!

I had both these shelves put together in 10 minutes!

Attaching The Cross Bracing

Cut (2) 1×4 boards @24″ with 45 degree bevels on each side.

To attach the cross bracing to the plant stand I used my clamps to secure them into place.

Next, I made sure both angles were flush with the top & side of the stand, then attached them using finishing nails.

With both cross braces attached, it’s time to move onto the back slats.

Attaching The Back Slats

The back will be constructed out of 42″ boards, spaced 2″ apart from each other.

I attached them the same way I did the shelves, using wood glue & nails.

Adding a Hutch Shelf

Every good potting bench needs a shelf!

Use the last 39″ board to make a shelf on the top board.

Hold the shelf board into place using clamps & make sure it is level.

Then secure it from the back using wood screws.

Adding A Hose Hook

Our potting bench will be located in front of our water spout, so this seemed like the perfect place for water hose storage.

I used scrap pieces of 2×4 & a 1×4 to build this hose stand.

I attached all the pieces using wood glue & screws.

This is how it looked when I was done assembling it.

After it’s leveled, attach it to the bottom back of the plant stand using wood screws.

This will be the perfect spot for hose storage!

Finishing The Potting Bench

First, fill all the nail holes with wood filler, then sand with 120/220 grit sandpaper.

Next, I stained the potting bench with Natural wood stain.

After the two coats of stain were dry I applied spar urethane to help protect it from the elements.

Finishing Touches

This plant stand is already amazing so far but y’all know I am not done yet 😉

Adding a place to hang all your gardening essentials is a must for a good potting bench.

These cup hooks are perfect for organizing all my new WORKPRO Garden Tools.

Start by measuring & marking the placement for each tool.

Next, I pre drilled a small hole, then screwed in the cup hooks along the top back slat.

To keep all my seed packets nice & organized I used my cordless hot glue gun to glue large clothespins to the back slats.

Now all my seeds are easily available for planting!

There is nothing better than organized garden tools being displayed on a beautiful potting bench.

Except one that is nice & lit up at night!

I installed these EverBrite Solar LED Landscape Lights to do just that.

These landscape lights are waterproof & have four lighting modes to choose from!

They automatically turn on & off, plus charge automatically so there is absolutely no hassle & no added charge to your electric bill 😉

This button on the back allows you to choose which type of brightness & whether you want warm or cold light!

You can mount them on the wall or in the ground.

Right now I have them installed on the rock path but I might swap them to hang above the potting bench…
