We were wanting to do a small upgrade in our kitchen and this was an option that seemed fun, budget friendly and a way to add character to our small space.

The BEFOR. We wanted to have some open shelves in this space so we removed the cabinets and this was our clean slate we started at.

What you will need

•L brackets - size will be determined by the width of the shelf

•Weight bearing screws

•Drill

•Shelves or shelf material

•Sand paper

•Spray paint

• Saw

• Sand paper

Start by spraying all your Brackets and the tops of your screws that you will be using! While they are drying cut your shelf pieces to size.

I chose some pre made pine shelves to use for this project. Other options are straight lumber, mdf boards etc! I cut them down to size and measured out the spaces on both sides as to where the brackets go. Sand them down where necessary!

I found that it was easier to level out the shelves when the brackets were attached. I used 1” screws to attach them from the bottom and 2 1/2” screws to put them into the wall.

Remember to check your shelves as you are putting them up to make sure they are level, it helps to have an extra hand in this part! 😊 There is no right or wrong way to put up your shelves! It is all dependent on your space and the finished look your after.

And Finished, the fun part adding the decoration and organize it all! Also a side note.. you can use the brackets either way, we chose to do it this way for appearance and space!!

Nice work. They do look good. I don't like open shelving cause they attract dust and dirt. And in a kitchen they'll attract floating grease from cooking
