get brown paper that is highly absorbent - not the wax coated kind. heat an iron and lay the brown paper over the wax. Lay the warm iron over the brown paper. A layer of wax will melt and be absorbed by the brown paper. You may have to do it a few times to get it all

Trying putting ice cubes on the wax to harden enough to scrape off.

I had this problem with fairly new carpeting in a new home purchase. This is what worked for me. Scrape as much off as possible first. Vacuum well to pick up any little bits. Then use the brown paper/ironing trick - test heat setting in a hidden spot - you don't want to melt your carpet! Because my spot was bright orange wax, I used a little peroxide, and then a weak bleach solution to reduce the color as much as possible - of course, it was a light beige carpet. Then....in desperation, I painted some bits and then I actually trimmed out some of the particularly stubborn fibers. Spots are gone and nothing is visible unless you put your nose right down on the floor (and if I have guests that do that, I've got other problems).

Old brown grocery bags work too and the iron...move the paper after it has absorbed the wax and keep on until all is gone!!
