Learn how to make wax brittle with soy wax and essential oils. Wax brittle is also called wax bark. It's like a wax melt, but it's easier to make without using a special mold.

I made my wax melts brittle with lemon and lavender. I add the essential oil and used dried lavender and dried lemon peel. You don't need to add the dried flowers or peel. It's purely for looks.

You will need:

  • 1 pound soy wax
  • 0.5 to 1 ounce by weight essential oils
  • 1 tbsp dried lavender buds
  • 1 tbsp dried lemon peel

Use a double boiler to melt the wax. Once it's melted, remove from heat and let it cool to 125 degrees Fahrenheit so you don't burn off the essential oils. Then add the oils and stir well. You can also add candle colorant or mica for color if you want. Pour into a parchment paper lined pan.

Then sprinkle dried lavender buds and lemon peel on top. Let it set until fully hardened. I recommend overnight. Then pull it out of the pan and peel off the parchment paper. Break it into small pieces.

To use your wax brittle, place a few small pieces of brittle in the wax burner and turn it on. Replace as needed.

Do not heat wax in the microwave or over direct heat. Always ensure essential oils are safe to use around pets, children, and pregnant women if they will be in the home. You can also use a fragrance oil.

I've not yet worked with soy wax - why can't it be melted in the microwave? Thank you! BTW, I follow your blog & I love it! I've made several things & got great compliments on them!
