Quick & Easy Tree Ornaments From Repurposed Straws

A light bulb went off, and these colorful straws practically jumped into my shopping basket.

Yes, that's exactly how it happened. (wink wink)

The large straws in the middle are plastic, and the packs on either side are paper.

Red and green just sing Christmas to me, and I find that colorful things tend to inspire me more that most other things.

I've had a love for polka dots since childhood, and I never really grew out of it.

Not that I've been trying very hard. Or at all. lol.

These DIY tree ornaments really couldn't be easier to make.

You just cut the straws into staggering lengths to create a tree shape.

I just hold each straw to the previous one and cut as I go. You could certainly measure as you go if you want to.

But I'm an eyeball and wing it kind of girl.

Once you have all your pieces cut and ready, you need a stem to hold it all together.

These paper straws are super easy to flatten, so that's what I did.

Hold the stem against the tree to get the length, and mark with a pencil so you know how far to go down the stem with the glue.

Then apply hot glue to the stem down to the pencil line.

Make sure all your straws are set up the way you want them.

Then place your stem straw right onto the tree straws and press down lightly so you get good contact with every straw.

When the stem is in place, run hot glue down either side of the stem straw for extra stability.

When my quick and easy tree ornaments were all done I glued some jute twine onto their backs for hangers.

Jute twine is one of my all time favorite things and I use it all the time.

It's classic and timeless, and goes with any design style and color preference.

To top off my tree ornaments I had some little poinsettia flower decorations, also from the dollar store.

But anything that you happen to have in your stash could be used.

These are so fun and colorful and didn't take very long to make at all.

These DIY pencil crayon tree ornaments that I made last year are just as fun and colorful, but they're quite a bit more labor intensive.

If you're looking for something quicker and easier these tree ornaments made from repurposed straws are a great alternative.

Being a girl who loves color, the red and green one is my favorite.

But I also love how the two green ornaments make the red poinsettia toppers pop.

These quick and easy tree ornaments would be a fun addition to any Christmas tree.

They can easily be customized for any tree depending on the colors and patterns of straws that you use.
