If your doggie is a sloppy drinker like mine - I have two Scotties and they have beards... enough said - you are wiping up the water spills a million times a day. Not anymore! Here are three ideas that help to contain that water in a stylish and useful way.

Idea #1

A decorative water dish

Using a 24" plastic plant saucer,

Hot glue jute rope around the outer edge of the saucer.

Place a water bowl in the center of the saucer

Add small, nontoxic plants. I chose Creeping Jenny. You can either plant them in the dish or place them in small pots and put the pots in the dish.

Place decorative rocks around the bowl and under the plants.

Fill the bowl with water.

And there you go. While your dog-o drinks, they are actually watering the plants.

Idea #2

A raised water bowl

Using a pedestal planter, simply take the plant out of the planter and clean.

Place a water dish inside the pedestal planter and you have an elevated water dish. This helps with the splashing since your dog is level with the dish.

Idea #3

A continuously filling water bowl.

You'll need a plastic water bottle. I used one that was a little heavier plastic like a sports drink bottle. If using something other than a water bottle, wash thoroughly before using for this project.

Using a small drill bit, measure about 1/2 inch from the bottom and drill holes.

Place the bottle onto the middle of a wide water dish and fill with water.

The water will run out of the holes and fill the dish until the water reaches above the holes.

As your doggie drinks, the water in the bottle will continue to fill the dish with clean water. Not only does this wider dish help with splashing, you don't have to fill it as often.

I like the ideas except for the water bottle. I would need to secure the bottle to keep my mischievous dog from stealing it before that would work.

Love the idea, however, for me I couldn’t use plants and not keen on the water bottle. My dogs play with the bottles on a daily basis. This has however given me some other ideas to play with.

For now I fold 2 bath towels in hall and put one under each bowl of water. I still get a little bit of mess but this has helped drastically cut down on slipping and sliding my way thru the kitchen.
