My Uncles Old Shutters

These little beauties were stacked on top of each other, turned sideways and zip tied to a cyclone fence on top of a cinder block retaining wall ( to keep the dogs in the yard) for a few years I'm guessing.
As you can see only 1 is in tacked. But my uncle assured me he had all the other slats to make up at least 1 more full shutter. So I grabbed them up and brought them home with all my other treasures he allowed me to pick before his estate sale.
I decided to build a free standing shelf unit out of them. When I put the slats back into the best one, that was missing all the slats I ran one short.. Drat! Right in the middle of my building. I didn't want to have to go back to my uncles house to search for one last slat or run to the home store, so I start searching my garage, Yes! A perfect match.. A Sherwin Williams paint stick is the perfect height and thickness. I cut it to the correct length and rounded the edges a bit to match the existing slats. After I put it in its new place I built the shelfs and assembled it. I choice to dry brush the whole thing with flat white paint.
I built these panels to add to the back for added stability. This one got the best of me. While I was nailing the corners together with my favorite tool, an air driven finishing nailer, I shot a nail clean through my thumb... OUCH!!! 😂
This is my finished project. Originally I was going to take it down to the shop and sell it. But I think I'll keep it around for awhile first.

What is that you used on the back? Also what did you build shelves out of and how did you attach them?

Thank you for the idea. I bought a house a yr ago and started cleaning out an old shed on the back of the property, and found some old louvered doors that the squirrels had chewed up, Now I think there is enough to make something . Thanks again for the idea
