After seeing this sad Bench - I had to restore it! I first had to remove countless nails and staples!

As it was.

I first had to remove countless nails and staples!

Nail being removed.

I then started to fill in holes with wood filler.

Holes filled!

I then started on repairing the dog-chew damage!

I did my best to create new lines to follow.

Had to use lots of filler, tons of articulate sanding.

Slowly it took shape!

After sanding - painting in Rich Black Acrylic paint.

Painting

Then I started to distress - I really wanted the hand carved detail seen:

I purchased upholstery fabric, foam cushion. Cut fabric to fit. Machine sewn corners and top cover. I used a 1/2 piece of plywood that was cut to fit as seat support.

Please Note - the decorative nail trim is NOT completely attached, making it look uneven - not sure if it will stay or not 😀

Finished!

Your materials list says paint, fabric, and foam.....how did you attach the foam to the bench to create a safe, supported seat? Did you have someone cut and attach a piece of plywood for you?

This piece looks fantastic! Did you put a piece of board under the upholstery to reinforce the seat? Or did I miss that?

How is the seat attached to the wooden base. Also I can see black tacks along the edge of the wood next to the coushion. Does this have anything to do with attaching the coushion or is this purely decorative. Great piece!
