First things first. When I bought my house 4 years ago it was seriously the absolute worst house in the best neighborhood. It was bank owned, listed poorly, overgrown, squatters, rodents, pillaged.. now that you have that picture, the fire place was not high on the priority list. Now that the whole house is finally finished it time to work on the eyesore. My hubs built a make shift mantel just to kind of make it tolerable .
Now hat all the nick-nacks have been removed.. see awful!
The space is over 6'
I started by building a frame
Then I white washed the brick
SHIPLAP...
1 coat of primer and 2 coats of paint
Now it's mantel time
I used a rough cut wood to make the box for the mantel.
The finished project.

I see the "electric" heater on top of the other heater. Was/is there still an electrical outlet to use? I see there was a stove pipe. Was/is the fireplace still workable? Thank you
