Coffee Bar Refresh | The Perfect Set-Up For Our Morning Brew

Isn’t is dreamy? Can you believe the photo below is the same spot, just different setup?

We’d been using the 90’s desk area just off the kitchen for our coffee and wine/bar area for the past three years. The chair was always in the way (not sure why we even had it there, except to break up that huge empty space under the desk?) And the drawers were filled with useless junk compiled over the years.

I’m on team open shelving. I know myself and if I can shut it in a cabinet and forget about it . . . I will. And that’s what happened with this desk area. It was the collector of all my “I’ll do it later” stuff. Along with the coffee makers, mugs, and cups.

I knew the area had potential. So one day, we decided to just rip it all out, and go from there.

That’s how a lot of my projects start. I need to see the blank canvas to figure out what I’d like to place their next. So we gutted the area . . . and I thought.

It all truly started when I decided to Sharpie Shiplap the wall . . . and then from there, we decided to go further, and removed the desk and cabinets. That spot couldn’t be left blank though. Our coffee and wine items had nowhere else to go if we didn’t reconfigure the space.

And so I thought . . .

And then I got some inspiration from my friend Liz over at The Cozy White Cottage. She’s always dishing up great inspiration. And when I saw this Instagram post from her, I knew that was the direction I wanted to head in.

So I went to Home Depot and found the exact Basswood Brackets she used and grabbed four of them. In most other areas of my home, I went with a more modern feel and metal brackets, like in our entryway refresh. But this time I wanted a more warm and soft feel..

Along with the brackets I purchased a long 12″ wide board and we cut it to size to make both shelves. I did a whitewash by mixing white paint I already on hand with water, rubbed it on the wood, and wiped clean. This took two coats, then I sprayed a clear matte finish over the top.

It was exactly what I was after.

The Buffett table was passed down to us by my husbands grandpa, and I absolutely love it.

All the decor and extra items I’ve collected from Amazon or local shops.

And now my mornings are just better. I walk downstairs, round the corner, and my face brightens. I grab one of my favorite cups, start the coffee maker, and smile.
