Bolt broke off on recliner, the seat is now sloping a bit when I sit

The bolt broke off from underneath the recliner seat. I can't see where it came from. Is there hope in fixing this or not? I wish I could share a photo but if I can't see it I don't think a photo would help. Big dark abyss. The leg part still seems to work.

  • You can fix it. You will need to find where it broke off tho and go to your hardware or home store for another bolt exactly like the one that just broke. You may need to get a locking nut and washer too. you may want to try and turn the recliner on its side or upside down so you can get deeper inside to see where it broke off. sometimes you can carefully unstaple the fabric and put it back as long as you have staples and a staple gun. but i am thinking you should be able to reach up inside from under the foot rest when it is extended. I hope this helps.

@The Garden Frog with C Renee Thanks, I will try this, I've been trying to see from the bottom, this maybe my problem, it has been on its head a couple times already. I got it a couple years ago used and have loved it so hate to lose it. I will try this in the morning. had enough of wrestling with it tonight.

A fastener called a hanger bolt might be useful (see the attached picture) find the location of the failed bolt and replace it with the hanger bolt or screw it in "close enough" to support the seat. This will leave the machine thread exposed and allow you to fasten the seat assembly in place with a nut and washer

@Thank You Daniel DeGraaf I will try and find this, I've spent a couple of hours trying to see where it is missing but no clue yet... I love the chair so I will keep looking for the spot. Thank you.

Hi Kathy. Try looking with someone sitting in the chair. It just might be a broken piece of wood that only droops when weight is on it. Wood will definitely split and you can't see it by looking at it. Pile your kiddos in, open it to recline and try looking then.

Hi, thank you good idea I didn't think of that either. The mystery of the chair. I did try sitting in it again last night and I couldn't get the foot rest to come up. So will be digging in again today with better lighting and maybe taking out a few staples. LOL I didn't even know the seat cushion would come out.

Yeah, I found where it broke off. Finally it was a bolt that also attached to the foot rest. So I'm now off to the store to buy the parts. I think with the screw bolt thingy and a nut and washer I can do this. Thanks to everyone with all the suggestions I was able to solve the problem.

thanks hope, I knew it would eventually, but I can only stand on my head so long so it probably took longer than most. But at least it is solved with all the help I got here. Thanks to all the good ideas I received. They all absolutely helped.

Is it Lazboy? If so, any authorized dealer should fix it for free....

Thank you. it is a motion craft and was fairly easy to fix after the suggestions I received and found out where the broken bolt was.
