This bench has vertical slats and I don't know how to handle that.

I would remove all the old boards and replace with new ones then make a cushion. Just measure the length you need and cut to size.

The boards on the back look to be okay. You could remove the seating boards and replace them with cut to size pallet boards, then give it all a good fresh painting. Maybe add a seat cushion and a couple of throw pillows.

You'll need a better quality board than a pallet board. You don't want them to fall in when someone sits on it. They look curved to me, is that an allusion? You could cut new strips for the bottom, or use some plywood or wider planks to fit. Then add a cushion.

Yes, they are curved and I think that is one of the things I liked about it. However, I may have to be more creative if I want to keep that feature.

Unless you are very handy with woodworking or lucky enough to find another bench just like this one, you have no choice but to make new, flat boards to fit. You could make the cover it with padding and a pretty fabric and attach it to the bench with "L" brackets. Unscrew 6 screws and take the seat inside during the winter.

You can recreate the curved boards by using a scroll saw and cutting your curved boards out of 2x4s draw your guide line on the 2" side of the 2x4 then cut your curve. No big deal to keep the curve.

If you are unable to reproduce the slats yourself you could find an area woodworker or a mill to do it for you.

I have the same problem but the slats on the back piece is the problem, how do I repair them? There not broken or damaged just loose and won't stay in place?

U could try to use golf tees hit them on the side but if it is loose back to front use some shims

i would run the new slats the other way with the curve of the side pieces and no poking in your legs when you sit nice cushion and you are set…use fabric for outdoors so you dont have to remove it every time it rains….enjoy and i would paint it a nice bold color of your choice….
