Gardening: Need tip on starting garden tiller when engine is hot

My 8 HP Briggs and Stratton garden tiller starts easily when cold...even after sitting unused for a couple months. However, when used for an hour or so it cuts off and I can't restart until engine is cold again. Any suggestions?

Gardening: Is this a good time to apply a pre-emergence for control of crabgrass

This has been a cold spring...would it be better to wait a couple of weeks to apply the control?

If your forsythia are in bloom, it's a good time, EC.

Home Maintenance & Repairs: Is there a flooring or siding material that would be satisfactory for an outdoor project?

I am looking for an economical material, such as discarded siding or flooring, to use

as a floor for my leaf and garden waste compost pile. It is roughly 120 square feet. Roots ...»

from nearby trees grow up into the pile making the material difficult to move.

Gardening: Is it too early to aerate and overseed fescue lawn in Raleigh area?

With the recent and continuing rainy weather now would seem to be a good time from the standpoint of soil conditions to aerate and overseed my lawn. I have no irrigation system and depend upon rain for moisure.

Mid-Sept is good. Wait until a day after a good rain so the tines can sink deeply in the soil

Are any of the animal pest repellents effective against squirrels, deer, and other animal pests in home gardens?

Advertisements on radio and in print publications suggest that some animal repellents are effective "up to 30 days" or more. Any suggestions as to when they are or are not effective?

Scent-based repellents will work for awhile on deer, if they are not too hungry. But you need ...»
to keep changing the product you use so they do not get used to the scent.

Gardening: Where can one find Sevin dust, an insecticide that can be used on most vegetables?

I cannot find a bag of dust that can be used to fill my hand-operated duster. All I can find is a small sprinkle container, which is not practical where a significant number

of plants need dusting.
