Making your own reusable disinfecting wipes is so easy, you'll probably be hitting yourself for not trying it sooner, especially with my no-sew tutorial! With just vinegar (which is ...»
antibacterial and anti fungal), some essential oils, and old t-shirts, you can create all-natural, super cheap and green wipes right at home!

my "secret garden"

This is my first picture post! I just got done laying over 1000 lbs of flagstone in my "secret garden". This is my favorite spot in my yard, because my yard slopes, and this is the only area where I can't be seen (i.e. from the neighbors).

  • Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint in Tricycle Red. I started with a vintage radio cabinet and wanted to achieve a chippy look, not the distressed look.
  • This is my first piece using MMSMP and I use the cabinet to display my vintage quilt collection.

One of my favorite furniture makeovers to date. For the finish I used Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint.

#Bestof2012.I've had this vintage radio cabinet in my living room for a number of years. I think it had been pieced together ...»
through the years with different kinds of woods and finishes. I spruced it up with Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint and now I just love it.

  • MDF shelves provide lots of easy access storage.
The tissue paper pompoms help soften and add some pretty to the utilitarian space. 2
  • Another view of the room. 2
  • Inexpensive ClosetMaid cabinets provide storage and act as a base for the cutting table. I dressed them up with some paint, beadboard, beadboard wall paper and trim.
  • Another view of the work/cutting table. This is two components stacked together. The drawers hold sewing patterns.
  • Pegboard organization for my tools.
  • This thread rack was and easy DIY project using scrap pegboard and wood dowels. 4
  • I took my old desk apart, turned it upside down and added casters. It now slides under the long desk but is easily pulled out to access the back of the computer's cpu. 3
  • I like organization that is also pretty. My ribbon is on display in clear plastic canisters. 2

  • I made a padded top for this bushel basket by covering an old clock with foam and quilt batting. The center already had a hole so adding the little button to tuft the center was easy. It doubles as a seat and yarn storage. 2
  • I drilled holes along the back of the desk for cords.

A DIY Sewing Room

When I remodeled my sewing room to make it more efficient, a lot of DIY work went into it and not a lot of money. All the furniture and storage in the room was either reused, repurposed ...»
or rearranged.

What had previously been my cutting table, became a wall to wall desk for my computer and sewing machines. It is a hollow core door. In order to use it as a desk, my husband cut it down the center, reinforced it with some wood supports in the hollow area, and secured it to the wall with wood cleats. The front is supported on legs fashioned from plumbing pipe.

  • A plain wooden dresser got dressed up with chalkboard painted drawers. The two tall white shutters add emphasis to the pretty vintage mirror, giving the entire dresser more presence. 2
  • Me make a typical headboard?! Never! :) An old door topped with a vintage mirror created a romantic headboard. The patina on the door was amazing! I just scrubbed it down and protected it with a spray sealer. 4
  • A handmade vintage quilt and pretty vintage bedspread were ready and waiting for the arrival of the box springs that hadn't made it into the house yet.
  • A cute little white side table holds a clock that also received chalkboard paint. And I just HAD to inject a tiny bit of rust somewhere, so the flower vase was the perfect discreet place. :)
  • The curtains were white twin sheets with homemade tabs. A cut down laundry line was cut into pieces, knotted then hand stitched onto the sheets. Simple, casual and pretty! 1
  • Some extra storage was added behind the bedroom door by means of two reclaimed boards and different coloured hooks. Tip: you can't see the clutter when the door is wide open! 1

A $250 master bedroom makeover... for a family in need.

I along with 5 other DIY bloggers recently took a trip down South to the World's Longest Yard Sale. The tour ran through 6 states, starting in Michigan all the way to Alabama! ...»

The mission? Collecting for a single mom and her two kiddos moving into a lovely new Habitat home. GMC, the sponsor of the event, handed us a budget of $250 each and sent us on our way.

You know I'm a junker, right?! But I also understand not everyone else is, so the choices I made reflected what I loved yet in a more upscale manner. I decorated the master bedroom and here's what I came up with!

Click the link if you'd like to see a video of the full home reveal, including a link to the other 7 parts to this amazing story.

Have you ever helped out another in need with the talents you have? I'd love to hear about it!
