How to Keep the Critters Out of the Garden

The rabbits were eating my beans so I came up with an easy, inexpensive solution for covering the crop until it gets big enough an no longer tasty to the critters.

planting marigolds around our picket fenced area for our dog would keep the rabbits out of it? We have an acre & a half that's un-fenced & a 30x24 area we fenced off for our chihuahua to have a rabbit poop free place (she likes to eat it, yuck!) & the bunnies spend most of their time inside the fence!

There's just something so charming about a "white" picket fence don't you agree?

How to Paint Perfect Polka Dots

I wanted giant polka dots painted on the walls in my kids' playroom. Tracing cups or plates work well for little circles but not so much for giant polka dots. I tried tying one end of a string to a nail and the other end to a pencil but that left me with wobbly lines. My husband suggested I make a compass out of a yard stick. I taped a nail on one side and a pencil on the other. Worked like a charm! Perfectly round polka dots without wobbly lines. Check out ...»

Gardening: Gardening question

Hello fellow gardeners! We live in a Zone 3-4. At our new house we've inherited some very pretty miniature roses planted in full sun on the south side of the house. Unfortunately they're so short, and planted along the tallest wall of the house (we have a multi-level home) it looks very naked :-( I want to plant taller perennials to balance the tall walls with the ground level.

So my question is can you plant Russian sage with roses? I've grown many, many Russian sage and they do ...»

You girls should try Knock Out Roses, I've never grown any other kind of roses (aside from ...»
miniatures) but I've heard how much work reg. roses are. Last fall my boss was removing some knock out rose bushes from the landscaping at our office & he gave me 2 bushes that were cut back to about 6 inches. My hubby dug 2 holes & planted them & I mulched around them & they started blooming this spring & are still going strong, Now they're about 2 ft high by 2 to 3 ft wide & beautiful ! Occasionally I'll go out & cut off the dead blooms & we water using a soaker hose but other than that we rarely have to do anything to them. (With the exception of treating them w/seven dust when the japanese beetles got in them earlier this year) Give them a try!

I agree with the wiping the paws, I wipe my dogs paws each time she goes out & comes back in. ...»
My dog is so used to it she actually pauses & lifts each paw knowing she has to have them wiped off before she can run through the house. If you don't want to do this they do make & sell doggie rubber booties! :0)
