Salvaged door coffee table/storage bench

We saw some pretty pricey coffee tables made from doors and decided to try making our own. We like $31 way better than $hundreds! You can find a step-by-step tutorial on our blog: http://www.thissortaoldlife.com/2012/03/14/...

  • A frugal, homemade alternative to good (but expensive) seedling heating mats.
  • LED rope lights to the rescue. Don't just pack them away after the holiday season!
  • String LED rope lights along a shelf. No need to tie them down.
You can see my homemade grow light setup on my blog - it's inexpensive and works great.

How to create a Mason Jar Patio Chandelier

  • This desk had been found next to a dumpster, until I saved it and gave it this face lift! I used Annie Sloan Duck Egg, mixed with Pure White to produce the ombre effect on the drawers.
  • Poor thing had potential! All the drawers were intact. I just happened to remove them and snapped a quick "before" shot before getting started.
  • Everything you see in this pic was second-hand! The desk was from the dumpster...the chair, lamp, picture frame, and flower pots, came from the thrift store! :) This is where I do all my blogging, too!

I might be lucky, but I have a 6 foot privacy fence. I put 6 nails in it (at appropriate ...»
height and width) I hang my blinds on the nails let them hang down and hose them with water, then I have a mixture of Clorox. dawn, and water. I sponge them with this then rinse. If you have a pretty day and one person to help, you can do them all in a couple of hours. If you want to hang six at a time, all the better. The first one will be dry by the time the sixth one is washed ; )
