About Me:

I am a full time career woman, with 3 kids. My family means the world to me. I only have one child at home, 2 yrs before she is off to college. My husband & I can not wait to be grandparents someday. In the meantime I love painting, crafting and staying healthy and fit.

Favorite area of home improvement:

I enjoy all types of home improvements. Especially repainting anything that needs it. I am always repainting yard decorations for my entire family:mom, sisters, & friends.

May Garden ~ Historic Goodstay Gardens

On a recent balmy spring evening, the Arden Garden Gild visited the grounds of the Goodstay Gardens on Pennsylvania Avenue in Wilmington, Delaware. At the height of its spring bloom, the ...»
collection of six enclosed gardens was a sight to behold. Breathtaking peonies planted in long flowerbeds filled the air with a lovely scent. Roses, iris, columbines, rhododendrons and many other lovely blooms filled the garden with color, accompanied by bird song as dusk approached.

Dating back to the late 1600′s, this colonial garden has undergone several restorations and improvements: in the 1920′s by Ellen Coleman duPont Meeds and Robert Wheelwright and, for the past twenty years, by the Friends of Goodstay Gardens group.

Goodstay Gardens is an oasis in the city, a trip to the country through a stone gate entry. Here is a small sampling of the beauty contained within. I hope it inspires a trip of your own to discover this garden gem.

Beginning to Look Like Spring...

It sure feels like my garden is off to a very slow start. What a Schizophrenic start we have had to the growing season. In just a few short weeks we have had snow, 100 degree temperatures, and a bit of a cold snap.

  • Succulent Gardens are easy to create and super easy to care for.
  • We used PVC pipe and cut it at an angle
  • Spray painted with stone paint
  • Fill with pea gravel for drainage and soil. Then planted the succulents.
  • Some of the plants were also planted in the ground.
  • Since there were some questions about Indoor Succulent Gardens, I thought I would add a photo of the one we created for indoors. They do great indoors.

  • Just spray painted this wood chair with Valspar's (Lowes) very light aqua color. It's my new favorite color.

Gardening

I just found a rusty porcelain tub at a sale for $2.00 so of course, I had to plant it. I used some of my dishes from my stash and planted them with Allysum, Moss Rose, Verbena and ...»
Violets. I put gravel in the bottom of the teapot and teacup for drainage. I also drilled holes in the bottom of the tub.Still debating if I should spray paint the tub with a pastel color.

  • Beaten up old bucket with a brass eagle on the other side.
  • I decided on a golden wheat color with streaks of barn red and added a whitewash. I lightly sanded it down to expose some of the wood.

Magazine Bucket

I love to go to garage sales, and something about this bucket called to me.
