  • The lower cabinets and island base as well as the bar stools all got painted the white of the upper cabinets.
  • the island with the top refinished brightens up the space.
  • Kitchen before:
The island was dark , I liked the finish on it but it was heavy feeling.

  • The lower cabinets were painted out the same as the beadboard, I liked them but again, they were heavy and moody.

Lightened and brightened Kitchen...

As promised... here are the before and after photos of my kitchen.

I loved my kitchen... but it was dark and moody, especially in the evenings so... ...»

I decided to lighten and brighten it by painting out the dark lower cabinets, island base and stools in the white of the upper shelves. I also refinished the repurposed island top to a beautiful natural finish.I like the results. It feels more open and airy.

Hoop Top House gets Shutters...

Oh for the love of shutters... They define, add impact, texture and detail to a home. Why is it then that I have never had them on any home we have lived in? I don't have a good answer, ...»
what I do have now... is shutters!! Yes, that's right, we bit the bullet and got to work.Twenty-two shutters cut, assembled,sanded, primed, painted and installed later...Have no doubt, there was eye rolling involved! I really need to start designing houses with less windows... note to self. our budget on countertop and cabinets and hardware.....so I came up with this easy project to add a some architectural interest without breaking the bank! Simply frame out the window with 1x6's caulk and paint. The before picture is worth the price of admission alone.

Another recycled chandelier

I took another glass chandelier and painted it black....There is just something so alluring about a chandelier...but these were just a little too dated for my taste. More projects like this here.
