  • This is my wreath. She is nice, but I want to refresh her for summer.
  • Here she is with a few things removed and a few things added. I added: billy balls, new greenery and flowers, and even a few sticks here and there. I also added a tiny "Summer" pennant for a full refreshed look.

Refreshed Summer Wreath

I have a nice wreath that hangs on my front door. But, she needed a refresh. She looks so much better now.

  • I found some cute plates at the thrift store. Using hot glue-low temp, I attached a paper clip to my plate.
  • They now hang proudly above my pantry door.
Easy Peasy!!

Easiest Way To Hang Decorative Plates

I love plates on the wall, but am not a fan of the look of plate holders. So I came up with my own sure way...

  • All of these items are thrift finds. Yep, even the blue Mason jar!! Using blue and/or green sea glass and marbles I can bring Summer to our home.
  • The tray is a $1 thrift find along with everything else. The blue and green pop, don't you think?
  • Adding some galvanized items with the blues and greens works on my book shelf, too.

Bring Spring and Summer In With Thrifted and Antique Finds

Here are just a few of my antiques and thrifted items that I have put together in our living room recently. The colors say "Spring is here and Summer is coming soon..."

  • If you've got an cute (but broken) item around your house, like I had this Crate and Barrel fruit basket, you can make an upcycled pendant lamp!
  • BEFORE: This cute Crate and Barrel fruit basket that I've owned for 10 years broke in half, and I immediately knew I wanted to upcycle the top tier into a DIY pendant lamp!
  • AFTER: I love how my DIY pendant lamp hangs over my $30 vintage drafting table that I got from the thrift store.
  • What's even better is the way it creates ceiling art when I switch it on ;) Who wouldn't love awesome shapes on the ceiling? This would be a good idea for a kid's room, too!
  • Poor little fruit basket....But one basket's demise, is a DIY'ers surprise :)
  • Here is a look at the materials you'll need to create your own DIY pendant lamp.
  • Materials #1: A lamp kit. You can get a cheap one on Amazon for about $10.00.
  • Materials #2: These swag hooks are about $3.00. Use a drill to make the hole in your ceiling and be sure to use that little anchor there to secure it.
  • Materials #3: A chain. This chain came from the Home Depot for about $0.99 per foot. I bought 8 feet, but it depends on the height of your ceiling.
  • STEP 1: Grab the cord that came in your lamp kit.
  • STEP 2: Thread the end prongs of the lamp cord through the small cap piece of the lamp kit.
  • STEP 3: Thread the prongs of the cord through the top of your pendant lamp. If your DIY pendant lamp doens't already have a hold, now is the time to drill one.
  • STEP 4: Thread the prongs of the cord through this lamp piece that comes with the kit. It will just screw in to the top cap piece. Pull the cord through to create some slack.
  • Now you've got the top cap and the bottom piece connected.
  • A closer look at the connections.
  • STEP 5: Now take your cord prongs and hook them like this.
  • STEP 6: Use your screw driver to loosen the gold screw and the silver screw on the black piece of the lamp kit. Wrap the hooked prong around the screw, then tighten. NOTE: If your lamp doesn't work, switch the wires.
  • STEP 7: Push the black piece with the wires attached back into the switch cover.
  • Now you've got a pendant lamp! Time to attached the chain.
  • STEP 8: Use pliers to pull apart links in your chain and attach the chain to your DIY pendant lamp. Be sure each side has the same number of pieces so it hangs evenly.
  • After connecting the chair, I have 4 links on each side, and the pendant lamp hung evenly.
  • Ta-da! Now that was simple :) I love it! And it's actually inspired me to think of other creative sources of making upcycled pendant lamps!
