About Me:

I am an artist, crafts person, totally outdoorsy, and above all 100% country.

Favorite area of home improvement:

Vegetable garden, and starting of an orchard this year. I do like all aspects of outdoor life, and only now have the possible time to delve deeper into making it a success again. We are also getting the start of a deck in back with a water feature, I want running--yesterday!

How to make your very own Cold Process soap!

Making your own soap is one of the most satisfying DIY projects you can do. It's healthy, it's luxurious, it's affordable, and homemade soaps make wonderful gifts! The "Cold Process" ...»
method of soap making starts with combining lye and water to create a "lye solution". The solution needs to drop below 125 degrees before mixing it with oils which results in a chemical reaction called "saponification", creating the substance we call soap! After that, you add your scents, exfoliants and all that other fancy deliciousness to personalize your bars to your heart's content! Check out my full blog post for an extensive (but easy to follow!) tutorial for beginners that includes a "Beginner's Recipe" using oils you can easily find at the grocery store! Coconut Oil, Olive Oil and Canola Oil are some of the affordable and moisturizing ingredients you can use to make a great batch of soap! I predict that you will fall in love with soap making and never turn back to store-bought!

DIY Wine Cabinet made out of crates.

This is so easy to do, have your significant other cut down the pallets and then you just stain. Have your significant other hang and then you decorate/fill with your flavor. Easy as ever...:)

  • I used just one color of craft paint for the whole thing, and simply added a little bit more white latex paint (left over from my ceiling) for each row of spoons. 2

Wooden Pallet Dresser

We used 6 old pallets to create a custom and unique storage piece. I had all these pallets in my garage and was just itching to do something creative and unique with them. This is what ...»
happened. We pulled the boards off of one side of each pallet and stacked them so the openings were bigger. I sanded and sanded and sanded forever then 2 coats of polyurethane to bring out the rustic color. I sold it to a family who are using it in their playroom!

Repurposed / Upcycled Hillbilly Bird Feeders

I created these and one other one recently for a Birds & Blooms magazine DIY feature. It was to provide a solution for really inexpensive bird feeder construction at home. I used ...»
everything from muffin pans, to remnant wood, to tray lids, and a few accessories. I used jack chain for the suspension. These were all created for less than $20 each.

Gardening: Using old satellite dishes for planting?

I was just rereading the post using the old bird bath for succulents..wondering if anyone here has made a planter out of old satelite dishes? Or done anything else clever with satellite dishes?
