yes, the inspector missed some very important aspects. We can blame this on overworked, ...»
understaffed companies. You definitely need a geotechnical engineer to check out your stuff (key is geotechnical... this studies the ground under the foundation)

How to Make a Rope Swing

I added a little more incentive to go outside by making a simple rope swing for our backyard tree. I used a few supplies found at any hardware store: a pine disc (already cut into a ...»
circle), a carabiner, and a long piece of natural rope. With some stain, a drilled hole, and a few tree-climbing knots, the swing was finished and hanging in our tree in no time.

Gardening: Can anyone identify this?

I found this odd growth on a coneflower plant today. I thought another plant was growing up through the plant, but on closer inspection, the green is coming directly out of the center of the flower!

Boozy Bees? Drunk Trunks?

If you smell beer and observe an oozy froth dripping down the trunk of a landscape tree, you might approach for a closer look. There's a party going on! Bees, butterflies and beetles are ...»
clustered around the froth and wobbling around it. The condition is called slime flux and it's common on stressed trees in mid-summer.

I have more details, and what you can do about this condition, at http://www.walterreeves.com/landscaping/oak...

Father's Day gift for my geeky husband.

I converted our outside, basement door into the Tardis. (The time machine from Doctor Who) It's the perfect entrance for his "man cave". I had some help with the power tools and details.
