Painting: New concrete floors - stained but turned out really badly. Looks more like brown paint and it shows every footprint.

The brown should have specs and swirls of a lighter tan and that just didn't happen. Can anything be done? Can I put another stain color on top. It looks just like they rolled on brown ...»
paint. I'm so disappointed and haven't a clue what can be done. :(

NEVER etch conc ( even once ) prior to acid-stains as etching reduces the cement's ' free lime ...»
' necessary for the acid stain's mineral salts to color,,, tri-sodium phosphate is the preferred method of cleaning prior to stain applied w/lo-speed buffer, brush, & black pad. IF the stain was applied too heavily, it would ' pool ' & leave a gumme residue however a pro could easily remedy this by properly neutralizing any remaining acid residue & cleaning the surface,,, it could then be restained ( if possible ) OR concrete dyes could breathe new life into the surface. to my knowledge, few pro's use any mtls from your source. i suggest your best bet is to retain a pro for his opinion & suggestions even if he wouldn't accept the work. removing the stain isn't possible however i'd guess that's not the primary sticking point - has it been sealed & w/what ? your budget limitations suggest fixing what's there would be best.

Home Maintenance & Repairs: The brick wall on the east side of my house is pulling away from the structure of the house and there is a problem with

pier and beam foundation that has caused settling on that end of the house, too. Other than repairing the foundation, do you ahve any suggestions for the brick wall and why would it separate?

depends how ' vapor barrier ' & ' directly to the block ' is defined ? typical trade practice ...»
is draping vinyl sheeting/6mil plastic down the wall then tuck it into the trench drain - this doesn't prevent water from seeping thru the wall as Susan inquired.

Checkerboard painted concrete basement floor in new craft room I'm building.

I'm building a craft room in our basement. I've painted the cement floor with a diagonal checkerboard pattern using floor paint and a dry brush technique. Using a hand-cut stencil 8 in. ...»
square, I drew a line along one long wall, the a parallel line along one short wall, then stenciled my first row of squares, making sure two corners of the square touched each of the lines for the first one, the the line and the tip of the previous square for the rest of the row. It is not an exacting method, but I was going for an aged, worn look. I dry brushed the paint on, leaving lighter areas to further create a time worn look. The open square I left in their natural concrete state.

polishing or honing is certainly an option however i don't think the lady pictured will have ...»
the necessary strength to horse around a 5 to 10hp polisher - even an light edco,,, here in atlanta, we've only got 2 stores that rent conc polishers & dry dust collectors,,, current cost is about $ 500day + you have to pickup & return - the polisher's about 600# & very unstable so unloading w/o a dock, overhead crane/lift, or forklift's not easy,,, grinding / polishing wet is much less expensive. polished conc will have a lythic densifier applied to it at a certain polishing stage to strengthen the conc AND color can be applied at the same time,,, acid staining roughens the conc surf slightly so you're effectively working against yourself - hope that helps clear any confusion !
