Remodeling: I would like to get some quotes on having bookcases done - convert extra bedroom to an office/library of sorts.

Would like to cover two existing walls. Any recommendations for a contractor in the city? Anyone had some bookcases installed that you really like? Need an idea of how much to start saving! :)

Thanks KMS... I will look over the site for some other ideas. But we have an alarm and ...»
monitoring, getting fencing installed this month, and took some classes at the range while updating our handguns last week. I think we're good. :)

Sawhorse, I don't expect them to be caught. But they better think twice about coming back. The fencing ate our budget for cases, but I'm sending a quote request anyway - throught the form you listed above. Tax season will be here soon... maybe we can get back to our bookshelves project then. Thanks so much!

Plumbing: I was curious about water pressure within our new home...

want to increase the flow a little and wondered if I could do it on my own. I was told a particular lever in my garage was the water pressure valve, but I'm a bit weary of touching it without any prior knowledge. Any suggestions?

Thanks again for all the great replies... Paul's suggestions have given me a little more hope ...»
of doing it myself... but I'm still a little weary after hearing the other warnings.

To answer a few of the questions: it's a ranch on a finished basement. It's a 50's home, but all new PVC plumbing - so I doubt there are any issues with pipe conditions. I have used the main shut-off before when I installed an icemaker line last week, so the valve I'm reffering to is not the main-shutoff. I was told by a plumber it' controls water pressure. All the other shutoff valves (undersink, toilets, etc.) are open wide.

The pressure isn't bad, just isn't as powerful as we're used to... may not be worth fooling with - nor worth the cost of having a plumber out. Guess I'll decide this weekend. :)

Construction & Additions: Trying to decided between slab or crawl space for new construction in Atlanta.

Any input on considerations and pros/cons is much appreciated.

I'm not a contractor or any sort of expert on buildings, but I've gotta tell you... having a ...»
decent crawlspace/basement has made a WORLD of difference to us. Not only has it made many repairs and installations much more cost effective, I've been able to do so many little jobs on my own because I've had easy access. Something to think about.....

Flooring: Anyone out there sealed their own floors before?

I want to tackle the sealing of a fairly large space this weekend - looking for suggestions on techniques, products, etc. Working on stone floors - appears to be travertine marble - but ...»
just bought the house and not certain. Floors have no product on them currently, and have never been used.

Design & Décor: We have oversized, stone-tiled showers in two of our baths.

The original designer left them open-air, but my wife would like some sort of partial glass barrier installed. The water never leaves the shower area, but she feels it would be ...»
beneficial. Is it possible to install a sheet of glass without removing/redoing tile work at the opening of the shower?

Home Maintenance & Repairs: Hello!

New homeowner here, with a question regarding pest control. I have a well-known company suggesting I have termite traps installed in my driveway. They actually want to use a diamond bit ...»
to drill a 3in diameter circle into the driveway, near the garage and install termite traps - three in all? I'm VERY skeptical about drilling three large holes in a newly paved driveway. Is this normal? Anyone else done it?

Wow. Thanks everyone for the awesome advice. I will be passing on the driveway baits. ...»

Andy - I will check into Ace, and it's an older home: renovated 50's brick ranch

Wally - that was my main concern, particularly since we are directing some gutter run-off away from the home directly across where they want to drill.

Woodbridge - AWESOME post, full of great advice. Thank you!

    Paul - LOL Amen

Hewitt - that seems to be the concensus: go small and local. Guess I'll be researching a little longer. :)
