What would you add?

We will be tearing out and re-doing the front beds in a few months when we replace our basement windows. I have never been happy with the overall look of the front but especially the R. ...»
side (pic#1.) The driveway is on that side and we have an additional spot for parking in front of the house (you can see the edge of a truck in the pic.) I feel like there needs to be vertical interest but am at a loss. This area is on the South side and gets the late day sun (starting at around 4 'til sunset). How would you continue or incorporate your idea into the left..I'm anal about symmetry. By the way, Hubs does not like bushes and any tree ideas need to be less than 6ft.

I agree with Cheryl K (above). I would paint the smaller area to match the rest of the house. ...»
I'd add shutters to the big side on all three windows. Add a porch and roof. Also put a window box on the left side(one big one under the two windows). Get rid of the storm door or get a solid glass one and paint your door red. Paint the shutters and window boxes the same color-different than the door. I know your husband doesn't like tall trees so add a trellis across the bottom of the large side and plant red roses.(if it was my house I'd plant 3 slim tall trees on each side and between the windows on the right side.) I love your daylilies.

Looks like, what we call, passion vine. I have a purple one and I have seen red ones too.

A curiosity.

My brother lives in an old house in Boston and sent these pics. Anyone have any idea what they are?
