  • Borax is a natural laundry booster because of it's unique ability to clean, by converting some water molecules to hydrogen peroxide.
  • The high alkalinity of washing soda helps it act as a solvent to remove a range of stains. Also adding Fels-Naphta helps eliminate residual stains. It works as a stain remover, for tough stains

Homemade laundry detergent and why it works so well

Homemade laundry detergent is all the rage these days but do you ever wonder if it really works? I love the idea of homemade laundry detergent, that costs a fraction of the price but I ...»
want to know that my clothes are actually getting clean, before I jump on the bandwagon!

The 4 basic ingredients of homemade laundry detergent are Borax, Arm & Hammer Washing Soda, Arm & Hammer Baking Soda and Fels-Naptha bar soap. I also added Oxi Clean and doTERRA Wild Orange essential oil, to give it a little extra cleaning power, and a delicious citrus scent. Check out my full post to see how/why each of the ingredients work to create the best, most effective laundry detergent. Click here: http://askannamoseley.com/2013/05/the-best-h...

Edit: This detergent can be used in a front loading washing machine, there are instructions if you click on the link above. It is also safe to use if you have a septic system, I researched all of the individual ingredients and they are all safe to use. My sister has been using this for years on her septic system and she has never had any problems.

  • It fits perfectly in my flower garden among the lavender.
  • Since it is all metal and hard plastic it weathers well outdoors.
  • I chose to add a favorite scripture verse, but you an add anything you would like!

Stamped Vintage Silverware Whirligig

Are you looking for unique decor for your garden? Well look no further! For this project, I hammered out the vintage silverware, stamped the words, and then glued it on to a vintage ...»
wheel. The wheel is then attached to a plastic pole and staked into the ground. I chose to stamp the words to my favorite scripture, but the possibilities are endless.

  • This is a simple, easy craft for kids and adults.
  • Any used food jars will work. Keep the lids! 1
  • Cover the jar with flat-bottom marbles using silicone sealant as an adhesive.
  • Attach the jar lid to a post or dowel using a wood screw. 1
  • But first hide a wish and tiny toys inside for a surprise later.
  • Check the jars every now and then. You never know when you might find a treasure!

How To Make Garden Treasure Jars

I started making these treasure jars when my kids were little and they wanted to make some garden art of their own. Because the jars remain functional, you can hide little notes and toys ...»
inside. Use them like little time capsules or part of a treasure hunt. And, of course, the covered jars look like pretty jewels in the garden.

1. Cover any used jar (keep the lid) with flat-bottom marbles (also sold as 'florist stones' or 'glass gems'). I use GE Silicone II sealant (clear, waterproof) as an adhesive.

2. Mount the lid on a post or dowel.

3. Attach the jar.

Notes and tiny treasures can be added at any time.

  • How many times have you thrown food away because it spoiled before you ate it?
  • We changed our approach to food and have stretched our savings and food stores by using these few tricks.
  • Buying nuts in bulk is cheaper, but you don't want them to go back. Separate them into air tight containers until you're ready to use them.
  • We freeze our own beans! We soak them and divide them into meal size servings and lay them flat to freeze.
  • We portion our meats and freeze them.
  • Just make sure to label the freezer bag with the date and remove as much air as possible.
  • We do this for all our meats - chicken, ground beef, ground turkey, pork loin steaks. 3
  • TIP! Save all your chicken scraps, skin and bones, as well as any vegetable scraps. I store them in a freezer bag and once the bag is full, I slow cook the scraps into a broth. I let the broth cool and skim the fat, then store it!
  • For portion control, freeze your cookie dough. We fly through a batch of cookies in a few days. Roll the dough into small balls and freeze them.
  • Transfer them to a freezer bag with the baking instructions on the outside. Only take out the number of cookies you want to eat.
  • We make our own granola. It's so easy, just find your favorite recipe and make. Much cheaper than store bought without all the preservatives. 1
  • One of our biggest money savers is making our own pizza. We buy frozen dough in bulk. We've made our own pizza sauce, too. Each pizza comes to about $2.75! 1
  • Making your own bread may be daunting, but it's really quite easy. One recipe we use makes two loaves.

  • My Cardinals love this cute DIY Terra Cotta Bird Feeder! 1
  • Gather these easy to find supplies: Terra Cotta Pot, Saucers, Picture Hanging Wire, 5" Eye Bolt,2 Nuts, Fishing Swivel, Branch & a water bottle! Soak your terra cotta in water over night to make drilling the holes easier... 1
  • You have to drill several holes in the pots/saucers and to do this you'll need a drill with a masonry bit. After soaking your terra cotta and marking your holes, slowly drill over markings applying steady pressure as you drill. 3
  • The water bottle will be your seed reservoir- Cut the top off your water bottle so it fits inside the pot. Mark holes to line up with the drilled holes in the terra cotta...using an exacto knife, cut out holes in water bottle-
  • Now simply connect all the pieces with your eye bolt and heavy gage wire! The eye bolt goes through the water bottle, clay pot, saucer and tree branch-secure it with a nut on top and on bottom... 1
  • Easy and oh so cute spring project!

  • Before I came up with the simple solution - I was one of those people chipping away and cussing out loud! This way takes forever! you get slivers, its a MESS!
  • Laying the towel down.it Was a very thick towel and dripping wet when I put it on the pieces
  • one or two test runs in the morning reveals - very little muscle power at all and it was peeling right off!
  • Slicing through that crud like a hot knife through butter!

How to Strip Veneer - no fumes, no power tools, EASY!

So simple, so easy! I have been trying to tackle the messy job of chipping veneer off pieces to re finish them and what a pain in the hiney! I thought of an idea, and while I was testing ...»
the theory, I asked our lovely facebook followers their favorite method. Well, pretty much everyone said either using a wet towel and an iron ( which wrecks both the iron and towel) OR use a heat gun - (which would then have the fumes from the adhesive floating up in your face - or house and then requires use of masks and such) SO Here you go. Very easy - SOAK a towel so it is dripping wet in a mixture of half water and half vinegar. Place it on the veneer. Have a girls night out and let it soak over night. Make sure it is SOAKING wet. I even went back later and used a water bottle and just poured it right onto the towel to make sure it was soaked! Come back in the morning and use a putty knife or chisel and it will peel up like butter! #StrippingVeneer
