Small bathroom remodel

We remodeled this small bathroom years ago. I still love it, and from what I've seen and read, it still seems to be in style.

  • Shade loving plants; turf or matt block; polymeric sand w/dwarf mondo planted in a diamond pattern along the pathway. 3
  • Crepe Myrtle tree; jasmine greeting at the gated entrance.
  • A little sitting area among grasses, begonias and dracena, under the wax leafed ligustrum tree. 1
  • Planted a living rug of dwarf mondo between the chairs and lounge. 3
  • Bird's Nest fern flank entry; living door matt to wipe feet before walking onto the boardwalk.

Shade garden #2: east garden

With oaks and tall wax leafted ligustrum trees, no grass would grow here; mud puddles were the norm. This is how I altered it into useful area.

  • With the removal of the viburnum tree, support for the bougainvillea was needed. (view from gate)
  • It's nothing fancy, but will work just beautifully for the bougainvillea and plantings around it! I'm pleased as punch!!
  • Looking up. 1
  • View from the pond. These are cramped quarters here. The arbor is 4'w x 5'l x 7' h, perfect for the amount of space and the plant!!
  • As well intended as hubby may be, there seem to always be casualties associated with his carpentry. Looks like the new motion sensitive light fixture in the storage room will be coming in handy.

New arbor for bougainvillea support.

I returned from a girl's week to find my dear hubby had made the simple arbor I'd requested as a birthday gift. I'm so pleased!!

himself and the only casualty was the motion sensor - who knows what he might decide to do next?? It looks great and I'm sure the two of you will get many hours of enjoyment!!

Kitchen overhaul

Thought I'd share photos of our kitchen remodel. It was just completed yesterday.......a 1968 kitchen brought into the 21st century.

Thank you Ellen! Our issue with our kitchen wasn't the color of our cabinets (as you may have ...»
guessed 8-) ); it was storage and work space. However, the old cabinets had been a dark wood when we moved into this home; we painted them once we'd settled in. That end of the house was dark with the overhead cabinets (over the bar) obscuring the light and air flow from the kitchen window and sliding glass doors, so we chose to remove them. Lowering the bar to the kitchen counter height afforded us more work space, and building floor to ceiling pantry in the laundry room, along with the sideboard, more than offset the loss of storage space when we lost the overhead cabinets. We like light and airy interiors, so hopefully, that's what the kitchen reflects.

  • Huge hairy legs! I believe this one traveled through a nuclear power plant area in transit to my home, which would explain the size and coloring.
  • Which witch hat???? The one that coordinates with the nuclear spider........of course. Purchased the hat at a local store and enhanced with ribbon and black foliage and balls. 1

Finally blooming

It has been so many years since this orchid bloomed, I forgot what color it was. For some reason, I had thought it was yellow, but it turned out to be simple white. Far less flamboyant than any of its cousins.

  • The last flush of fungus.
  • An old viburnum..........served well.
  • Removing the tree, totem pole style.
  • Lugging section by section in close quarters.
  • Down to the last cut.
  • Cleaning up.
  • I'm stumped! Given the fact that irrigation lines run beneath, the stump will be drilled and Stump Out applied. Stump grinders are impartial about water lines. 2

Viburnum tree: Going, going, gone.

Hated to lose this tree, but between being topped by a microburst, trimmed, attacked by bores, then fungus, we had to bid it a sad farewell.
