  • This is my side yard before. These are the granite blocks I used to create my new patio.
Ugly before, right??
  • This pattern I saw at a local nursery was my inspiration.
  • I dug my hole about 3-4 inches deeper than the stones. I covered the base of the hole with a layer of weed block fabric, then 2-3 inches of sand. I laid out stones in a circular pattern starting in the center.
  • I filled the spaces with tiny irregular pebbles as you can see in this close up taken at Easter last year.
  • A bench gives the space purpose. I can't believe I almost gave these granite blocks away!
  • A once ignored space is now a destination. 1
  • The patio seating area breaks up the long path from the front to the back.
  • Coming from the back gate, it's a hidden spot along the way.
  • So much better. Big difference from where it started! 1

Recycled Granite Block Patio

I reused the granite blocks in my former landscape to create a small patio! These blocks had little to no impact before, and I was determined they were not going to be used in our new ...»
landscape.

One day while visiting a local nursery, I saw a really cool circular pattern in the gravel made from small square stones. That's when I knew those granite blocks weren't going anywhere...they were going to be my new patio!

  • OH NO! A deadly mishap this morning! Time for a new colored gazing ball.
  • This is a top view of the hole we drilled in the log to run the extension cord. The end of the hole is the same diameter as the outside of the gazing ball stem.
  • Feeding the strand of colored lights into the gazing ball.
  • I taped the end of the strand of lights to the extension cord so it couldn't accidently pull out and fall back down that long 31 inch hole in the log.
  • Placing the gazing ball onto the top of the log.
  • This is how the gazing ball nestles onto the log. It just sits there.
  • All finished. Now my Fairyball is green until I can find the perfect replacement color. 1

Lighted gazing ball mounted in an old log / Instructions included!

This is a standard glass gazing ball that can be purchased at many home centers that we mounted on an old log and installed colored lights inside the glass ball. We drilled a hole up ...»
through the center of the log and fished an extension cord from the bottom to the top and into the glass ball after inserting colored LED lights. Then we mounted the log on a concrete base and secured it in place. I broke my original beloved gazing ball this morning trying to get pics so that is the reason for the change on the color of the glass ball.

Outdoor Living: Anybody have any ideas where to find cast stone outdoor fountains in GA or SC?

I'm looking for a two or three tier fountain with pool for my courtyard. I can't find anything local. Even went to Savannah because there was a "Fountain Distributor" I was very ...»
disappointed to see only two fountains that were old and a catalog, of what "could be ordered". I've looked on the internet until I think my eyes are going to fall out. I would really like to find a distributor who has "new" fountains in stock, so I can see and hear what I'm getting instead of buying the proverbial pig in a poke.
