  • the old bath tub. Must have weight 300 pounds because it was cast iron. The little partition on the end was a puzzle to me. Why would someone put this there?
  • Pink tile counter top and partly up the wall.
  • Out with the pink nightmare of tile work and the tub.
  • more pink tiles removed from the wall behind the counter top.
  • A soaking corner bath tub. The frame work was put in by a carpenter and the plumbing done by a professional plumber. (Not my metier)
  • New water prove sheet rock, now this I put in myself.
  • Sponged faux finished on the ceiling using raw Sienna and raw umber along with white acrylics and glaze of course.
  • Pink stool and tank turned white having used an epoxy and marbled the seat and tank cover also epoxy. 2
  • The pink tiles left on the counter top was first treated with new grout and then marbled also with epoxy. The pink sink turned white just like the stool.
  • close up of the marble look
  • And this earned me the nick name Carlangelo ... it's the Zodiac done with rhinestone and glitter over black paint. I tried to paint the stars silver but it looked like hell. So I coated it again and used the Rhinestones instead. 1
  • And this is the Egyptian theme that will go across the entire wall. It's not finished yet. I am working on it. We call this bathroom now our "Wet Tomb" ... or better not say ... lol 1
  • cabinets where white just received a new coat of paint. It was needed.
  • A matching seat all the way around the tub and the enclosure painted with the same sponged faux finish.
  • Last but not least the pink tile was removed from the floor. It has spots where the tile was loose or cracked. Beneath a plywood floor. I sanded this with a belt sander and I'll never use such heavy equipment again, I'll tell you. But after that the floor was done with the same epoxy marbled and framed with tile look faux finish. It's lasting and lasting. This bathroom is now 2 years old.

Pink Is Evil. (according to my husband)

My husband lived a pink night mare in the master bathroom for 20 years and didn't know what to do with it. Pink tub, pink stool, pink sink, pink tile on the floor and halfway up the ...»
walls. All he managed to come up with is to cover the floor with a charcoal gray carpet.

........until I arrived and changed this pink girly dream of a bathroom into something a MAN likes to live with.

  • From ugly mustard yellow to faux finish
  • including the bathroom sink
  • just don't use abrasive cleaners on the polyurethane finish

I put a faux finish on my ugly, old, mustard yellow bathroom tiles, including the sink.

first cleaned the tiles. 2. put grout into places where needed. 3. used latex semi gloss and natural sponge to create the faux finish. 4 covered the tiled area with several coats of ...»
polyurethane (water based ) 5. caught the area around tub. It's holding like a charm, taking showers, splashing water on it and cleaning it. Just make sure the polyurethane is covering EVERY AREA of the tiles.

I don't use a harsh abrasive but liquid cleaner and wipe down. Works like a charm.

  • Knotty pine doors are fine for a cabin but after a while the knots can get on your nerves. 6
  • Green and white is the main theme now. 18
  • What to do when you can't afford a new counter top? Especially if you like stone? 4
  • simply! I used stone looking wall paper and 5 coats of latex Polyethurethan and this counter top still looks like new a year later. 13
  • Problem area behind the stove. We all know how hard it is to clean the wall behind the stove.
  • I solved this problem by installing a metal looking vinyl back splash and it cleans like a charm. 8
  • To paint over knotty pine is only possible if you use "Kills' to prevent the knots from bleeding through. I didn't want the board look either. Refacing doors costs a lot of money. I did it myself by using "hard board that I glued over the surface of the bottom doors and then painted. I also took all the black hinges and handles off and coated them with silver rustoleum 3
  • I didn't bother to do the same treatment with the top cabinets. I simply removed them and have open shelves. Now I don't have to open and shut the cabinet doors putting dishes away. Work wonderfully for me. 5
  • The wood work is now painted white and I made a small pantry out of what was once a broom closet and catch area.
  • My new kitchen pantry. 2
  • The ugliest. old floor you can imagine. By the way, I married my husband who lived in this house for 26 years just 3 years ago. It was time to change this floor 5
  • To add a little interest I put the new floor tiles in diagonally. 7
  • Instead of painting the walls I used wall paper illusions with a faux traventine marble look. To make this washable, it received a coating of artist glaze. Now I can wash the kitchen walls at without damaging the wall paper. 4
  • An old glass table with chairs received a new look. I didn't want to buy spray paint to cover up this dark green metal furniture and breath in the fumes. The old paint had peeled in places and it's white primer coat was showing.
  • A simple solution was to sponge over the old paint using a lighter green and covering the seats of the chairs with new washable, indoor outdoor fabric.
  • And here it is, all done 5

Remodeling a dark, dingy kitchen on a low budget

Our kitchen is facing north and has one small window, hence there was not much light. The knotty pine look was getting on my nerves and so did the ugly, red Formica counter top, including ...»
a 70th look linoleum brick floor all worn and the wood work being a very dark brown didn't help to make this kitchen into a cheery place to work in. I love light! Especially during Colorado's long winter month. I remodeled this entire kitchen from top to bottom for less than $900.00

  • This was before we put a new septic system in 5 years ago. 6
  • The entire view from the house was only long, sloping hillside, overgrown with weeds and burr dogs. 3
  • The new septic system required a 48 feet long, 12 feet deep and 8 feet wide leach field to be according to code. 2
  • So the entire land scape was torn up and the place looked like a new construction site.
  • Dirt and rocks had to be moved. 2
  • Not a green spot anywhere except the trees.
  • My first project was putting in a pond. I dug this with a shovel by hand and today it holds 1200 gallons of water and features a waterfall. 8
  • This is view from our deck and sun room to the pond now. Moving all that rock was not easy and even harder was to establish a good eco system for plants and fish. 1
  • Along side the deck and sun room. I learned what to plant and what not to plant. Deer are the main culprit since we have 8 acres of land and no fence and do not live in the city proper. 2
  • Some old tent sticks served to create this arbor. Not too swift but it's wonderful to see roses and hardy honeysuckle climbing up. I also put some stair steps in the sloping hillside to make it easier to walk down to where the leach field is. It's now all lawn area. 3
  • Fall in our garden and the scare crow is still standing after 3 winters. 4
  • Some old loud speakers make wonderful side tables on deck. 3
  • Iris needs a lot of water and I am starting to water early in the year when the snow is still on the ground in March. The reward every spring is simply a sight to see. 3
  • And here is my friend Adonis. One day, he almost followed me into the kitchen. 4
  • Instead of one huge hillside, I have now 3 levels. One running alongside the deck and sun room with the Iris and a little pathway installed. One beneath that with a fireplace. I just don't like the gravel and so I am in the process of removing it and I will sow grass instead. Easier to maintain simply moving it then plucking weeds out of the gravel. 4

Transforming A Wilderness Into A Garden

We live in Ouray Colorado amidst a very shady, wooded area in a canyon. It was not an easy feat. It took me 5 years to establish.

Carved Emu Eggshells

Emu eggshells are smaller than the ostrich eggshells of course. They are also thinner. Not only that, the Emu egg is a deep, dark, emerald green on the outside but beneath that outer ...»
shell there are several layers that have different color pigments. Right beneath the dark green is a thin layer of gray. Beneath that a teal color that sometimes is more turquoise than teal and as beautiful as a gem. The last layer in every emu eggshell is snow white and paper thin. To expose this through carving is very difficult. But I used the different layers to carve relief work into the shells. Since I have been asked to show more of my work, here are more photos.
