KMS is right on with his answer. It is not so much the type of stove you have, but you must ...»
maintain clearances from combustible areas, use proper stove pipe and fresh air in a mobile home is just not there as they tend to be pretty tightly constructed.

If your thinking of doing this, and were not really saying you cannot, it is just not practical as the stove is very inefficient to operate and and by the time you get all the items you need installed to make it safe, you have spent way more money then you will save over a few years of just using the homes heating unit.

If your really looking for ways to save money on heat and want some sort of stove. Look into pellet stoves for the home. They do make units that will work for the smaller tighter mobile home installs. Just check with your local fireplace stove dealer in your area.

Don't ever use chlorine bleach to clean wood.

It is highly alkaline and will raise the pH of the wood to a point where you cannot rinse it out. The higher pH will cause any stain or paint to fail prematurely, leaving you with a huge mess. There are cleaners available that will clean with an oxygenated bleach (instead of chlorinated) and will not ruin the wood. Wood ReNew from Perma-Chink is the best I've ever used. If someone has used bleach on your wood, you can reduce the pH and make the wood suitable for staining or painting again by applying oxalic acid to the wood.

Denim Look Wall Painting

We wanted to create a jean / denim look on the chair rail portion of my sons bedroom walls.

*Options I considered for this project: ...»

Purchased a kit from home depot was the only option we considered. We had used a lady to do some custom painting in one of our children's rooms in another house but decided to do it oursleves.

*Questions and unexpected events that arose during the project:

Never had done this affect with paint before

* Cost Comments:

Paint kit - $50; $25 paint supplies

*My motivation to do this project:

Redecorate my son's room from the original paint form the home builder. We wanted to create a jean / denim look on the chair rail portion of my sons bedroom walls.

*Project Steps:

Purchased a kite that included the paint, the scoring tool and tape at home depot -

Painted the chair rail portion of the wall with white paint in sections

Let the white dry for a day

Applied the blue/faux/translaucent paint and then scored with provided tool - this creates the faded look of the jeans

The key was to tape off each to create a 1/2 inch section that was painted twice so it was darker - this became the "Seam" of the jeans

After the blue drys then go back to each seam area and use the provided tape that is very narrow with small holes. Measure and line up a strip from top to bottom. Paint the whole with the white paint and use have a jeans / denim seam.

Materials:

Paint kit - $0.00

I heard a painting tip a while back that I was finally able to try out.

If you are in the middle of a painting project, you can wrap your brushes and rollers in saran wrap and put them in the freezer overnight to finish the next day. Worked like a charm!

  • The backsplash consists of 4" and 6" torreon tumbled stone tile separated with a 1" x 12" cane stone border. The colors of the mural are repeated with glass tile accents.
  • The original hood in this project was a dated wooden one. 4" tumbled crema marfil was applied directly to the wood to give it an updated look. Shutters included in the mural make the window illusion more realistic
  • The original backsplash wasn't layed out properly and ended up being off center behind the cooktop. We installed a mural directly over the existing tile to cover the mistake. This saved money & demolition time to remove the backsplash & start over.
  • The client wanted more color in the kitchen, but didn't want to remove the existing backsplash. This mural was installed directly over ceramic tile with tile mastic.
  • The space between the the microhood and the countertop was limited, approximately 18" tall. The mural gives a "window effect" in a small space.
