company. The best part is the old phone number! Have YOU found any great demo discoveries lately??

Plumbing: Washer and Dryer Installation

Our washer and Dryer is currently in our basement. We want to put it upstairs in a closet. The closet is right over where all of the hookups are currently. Is there a way to hook ...»

Hi Jen - If there is already plumbing ...»
available inside a common wall, then it might make the plumbing venting much easier. The trick is identifying where the existing plumbing stack and vent is located and tying into it. Might save you from having to run a vent up into the attic.

A laundry space saver is a plastic washer rough in box that mounts inside a stud wall and incorporates the water connections and drain into one handy location. I searched online for a link. See the second photo down from the top:

    http://www.schlatter.org/Nneck%20House/rough...

You might want to consider getting a plumber to look at the situation. That way, you can ensure your supply lines are properly sized as well. You might also consider installing fiberglass or mineral wool sound insulation in the wall prior to closing it up as well. At least, on the kitchen side.

Cleaning & Organization: Cleaning hardwood floors

I have tried a Swiffer, a Bona, straight vinegar, orange cleaner, and a steam mop. I always get a residue on my hardwood floors. It is so bad that I'm actually considering Pergo or ...»
carpet! I'm tired of spending my money on products that do not work. Does anyone know definitively what cleans hardwood floors with no residue? I'm desperate!

Great advice Sherrie- most average ...»
homeowners won't truly be able to recognize a waxed floor when they see it. I have worked in a couple of homes with both waxed hardwood, and poly coated floor. Makes it confusing for sure.

One rule that is certain is to never ever use orange&glo, oil soap, or other wood conditioners on a wood floor. I always use only warm water, hand washed with a wrung out rag, and dry the floor behind myself with a dry cloth. On tough spots, I use windex and rinse with a damp cloth. Otherwise, I would use what the manufacturer recommends. Typically, on prefinished floor, we will supply a Bona kit.

Tracy Boyle - it is possible that you have a buildup of wax or cleaner on your poly floor. Try handwashing several times and see how it helps. Otherwise, it might be possible to have a "screen and poly" coat, but not likely if you have a real buildup issue. Screening probably would not be aggressive enough.

could hear water falling inside wall before appearing on floor. It doesn't appear to be the grout as I thought. Could it be the caulking/sealant around the outer window frame or what?

Is this an exterior wall? You mentioned hearing water falling inside the wall, which I would ...»
suspect would not be possible if the wall is insulated. If it is an interior wall, most likely a roof flashing, chimney flashing, or roofing itself? I have seen the rubber flashing around a plumbing vent deteriorate many times over the years, but usually it leads to only a small leak.

SLS has the best advice. Hire a qualified professional to come out and track it down.

You might try using a plunger as well. Use it gently on a sink, though. They make sink ...»
plungers for this that you can buy as well!

Also, it's best to not run food waste through the garbage disposer unless you really have to. It just adds to build up.

genuine slate tile squares. It's not what I would choose, but I'm going with it anyway. They just look awful and the ridges have built up residue in them. Looks nasty.

Usually an acid wash is what we would use to clean off residue. Not certain it would work for ...»
wax, but may be worth investigating. It's a chemical process, so care must be used when attempting an acid wash.

Do you have a local millwork suppy house that would possibly furnish glass and cut it in? We ...»
buy doors like that all the time. Typically with ODL brand glass inserts. However, the millwork supplier will not cut the glass into doors that they don't furnish.
