About Me:

Manager, Home Decor Store, Orange County, CA I am a left-brain former aeronautical engineer and British expat currently living with my husband in California. Although trained in the sciences, I have had a life long passion for design and love to talk about and share all the tricks and tips I have learnt (the hard way) on my own design journey. "Every house should be a home that reflects you!"

fill in the blank: what's above your bed? photos wanted!

Okay, i know I have only been on this forum for a week! but I am super impressed with all the talented designers that share this forum and I thought I might ask for some help. I just ...»
posted an article on ways to fill the space above your bed.

http://bit.ly/MZwDpG

It features mirrors and art (normal stuff right?) but next week I want to feature some unique options (I've seen names, paddles that act as headboards....) and I know you guys have some hidden gems in your own homes. so if you care to share - post a comment here (with a picture if you have it) or head on over to my blog and submit your photo for inclusion in next weeks post, your designs will be fully credited...

Also, if this is a totally inappropriate request, just let me know (gently, please) and I will be super embarrassed and not do it again. Cheers!

Simple Spring Planters - What's the Verdict?

Okay let me start by saying I do not have a green thumb, but when I looked at our store planters I knew I could probably do better... here's what happened with just $125, an afternoon in the sun and some design flair!

What do you think?

can your name help define your design style?

Okay you are going to think I have lost it, but stay with me... one of my favorite bed's is called the Helena by Oly Studios it matches my design style to a "t" and it got me wondering ...»
whether designers were using my name in other ways that reflected me. If they had this would save me loads of time on furniture sourcing!

I have included 3 of my favorite namesake design items here (my top 8 can be found in my post "namesake design") and I thought it would be fun to see if anyone else has a favorite piece with their name on it.

Feel free to share below or on my website... have a great weekend

Family Room Reveal - Making What You Have Work

Decorating after a move into a new home can really be a challenge. What worked in your last home, does not always work as well in your new home. This is what happened to us. ...»

We have a big wool traditional style rug that we love and it looked great in our last home with dark wood floors. Put that same rug with lighter wood floors and it looks very different.

Determined to make it work I pulled the colors from the rug (black, ivory, red and green) and used them throughout the room. I love lots of texture and shine in a room so I also added several baskets, silver accessories, weathered pieces, burlap and linen.

Hope you will stop by my blog for the full tour, lots of pictures to share.
