About Me:

Hi Everyone, My name is Jeff and I got my DIY degree from working on homes older than your mom. You'll discover all sorts of weekend projects by visiting me at Home Repair Tutor where I share my adventures (both good and bad).

Favorite area of home improvement:

One of my passions is turning outdated spaces into works of art. I have to say bathrooms are my favorite because honestly that's where I do a lot of my thinking (LOL).

  • 1. Planting: When planting new annuals and perennials, put a scoop full of timed release fertilizer into each planting hole.
  • 2. Container Gardens: Use 1/2 scoop of fertilizer to two gallons of water for container gardens every time you water. Remember it most of the water you pour in runs through. 1
  • 3. Garden Beds: Water down your flower beds before fertilizer (better yet fertilize after a rain)

  • Drill: My little 14v Makita cordless drill is my alltime favourite. It's a smaller scale drill that REALLY packs a big punch. It fits a woman's hand like a glove, losing the bulk. I recommend the 2 pack kits with the chuck / chuckless. 3
  • Bits: this is the purse of my dreams! This all in one Makita tool bit case allows you to tote whatever you need anywhere you go. I'd be lost without it. 2
  • Palm sander: I have both a clamp on style and orbital. I admit to loving the clamp on motion better, but love the ease of the velcro attachments on the orbital. Which is your preference? 1

    Hi Rebekah H , Woodbridge gives ...»
awesome advice. I'd like to add a tip that helped me and several other people. Try mixing OxiClean or any oxygenated bleach with water. You can make it into a paste or slurry and apply it to the "pooped on grout". Let it sit for 30 minutes then rinse with water.

If you're concerned about the oxygenated bleach hurting your tiles you could test it on a scrap piece since you just had them installed. But oxygenated bleach doesn't discolor like normal bleach does and I had no issues with our tile. Here's a post I did on this topic (it was an experiment) that might help http://www.homerepairtutor.com/clean-ceramic...

If this doesn't work then go with Woodbridge's suggestion :)
