Carpentry / Woodworking: Is there a wood filler that you can actually stain?

I know that Minwax says that you can, but that is totally untrue...I have tried on multiple occasions and have never gotten it to work. Is there such a product?

Painting: Why does this happen to me when I spray paint?

It does not matter if I use spray from a can or if I use my sprayers (I have a CommandMax and an HVLP with a compressor) but I always get spots that come out shinier than others. I spray ...»

Painting: Can you "thin" regular Polyurethane to make your own "Wipe-On" Poly?

I thought I read somewhere that you could do this. It would be much more cost efficient, because one can of store bought Wipe-On does not go very far.

Yep, that was it...the mineral spirits. Does anyone know the ratio...poly to mineral spirits?

Thank you...I will definitely give this a try! Sounds like it will work on all types of finishes!

Painting: I have been asked to paint (not stain) some cabinets for someone.

Does anyone have any good tips or possible tutorials on how to do this before I commit. I have painted many items, but never cabinets and I want to do it right or pass on the job if it is too difficult.

  • table top

Painting: I sanded this table top down to bare wood using a belt sander.

I have the old stain off, but now I see this odd design in the wood that did not show through the original stain. Can anyone tell me why it did this...I am thinking this will look terrible if I stain over it...did I ruin the piece of wood? Any thoughts appreciated!

I was thinking of that, but although it now has a "sloppy" stain job on the bottom (because it ...»
is the "wrong side") I don't know what is under the stain...probably not even a layer of veneer. Are you saying that even if I paint, that I should use this side instead of the other? I would just have to putty up the holes, so that might be my best option.
