About Me:

While I would love to live in a "real" house, I dont. Mobile Home is what we have, an old one, but I love decorating sites, hgtv, DIY, that makes me want to do things that can't be done here. I am also a cat freak...love 'em.

Favorite area of home improvement:

Interior everything, garden...

  • This is my "totem". I've had it outdoors for several years now. It's held up really well except for the "ladder" incident last fall while a helpful neighbor was helping me clean out the gutters. 9
  • These are the tools you'll need. I use GE II Silicone for Windows and Doors (clear) with a caulk gun.
A level will come in handy to make sure your totem doesn't lean. 4
  • Wash and dry (thoroughly) your glassware. I suggest you let your vases and such dry overnight. If you have ANY moisture inside, it will be sealed inside once you apply your sealant.
  • apply your silicone to one of your pieces, then add your next piece to it.
  • remove the excess silicone with your finger or a paper towel.
*tip* I generally glue two pieces together, while gluing another two pieces together. After those four pieces set up overnight, then I glue the two (or 3) sets together.
  • *tip* to keep water from standing in your plates, turn them upside down. I like to separate my large vases and such with clear plates. A microwave plate makes a great base piece. 3
  • You can use a plate on top right side up to make a bird feeder or a birdbath. 6

I also use GE11silicone clear..we have VERY hot summers, and pretty darn cold winters. My bowling balls with half marbles stood the test of time all winters and summers long. Finally after 4 years or so, some of them started falling off, not a big deal. The bowling balls themselves get really hot in the sun. I also use the silicone on my cd spinners on which I glue half marbles, you can find my posts and pictures, they have been outside in all weather for years! Maybe you didn't use enough for a good seal? Gail, KellyKelly S (sigh) I found more glass ware at a yard sale today! It was hard pickings tho, like maybe someone got the inside scoop and is keeping all their cool glass ware. but much cheaper than goodwill. My friend went with me, she has a whole hutch FILLED with glass ware, she looked at me suspiciously, like why am I bringing her along for the ride?

loved to have been a mouse watching that! Thisis a super idea, I have an oxy clean squirt bottle I have been using, been thinking of using some of that neat duct tape, but this is better. Do you suppose those bottle tops would work on a plastic bottle? and I have tried using an olive oil bottle, but it is decorated and cant see through it. and the top falls off, so this sounds better!

How to Build Raised Beds

If you are thinking about starting a vegetable garden, now is the time to plan. I highly recommend that you build raised beds. You can grow more vegetables in a smaller area and control weeds and soil conditions

upturned look. They are mostly metal except the small one on the left in the picture, The glue didn't hold on the big one behind the trellis so version B will be completed by drilling a hole in the middle and using bolts, lock washers and nuts to hold it all together.

mushrooms and flowers for the garden and yard

Bernice H , I finally got the glue (E6000) going. Why didn't anybody here warn me that once it starts flowing it just won't ...»
stop? lol I guess I'll let it dry and then try to pop it off the hardwood floor. You do have to put it on both pieces and let it get tacky then stick them together. It's a contact cement similiar to the adhesive used when laminating countertops.
