Outdoor Living: I am seeking bids on granite for kitchen and bath.

What advice do you have for me to avoid extra costs, surprise costs, and/or simply not getting a good deal? Is there an average price per square foot that I can use as a guideline? Is ...»
it really a better deal when some of the big box granite outlets offer "free tear outs" and free sinks, etc.?

That's a really pretty tile. Thanks for the ideas. This isn't my dream house and I just ...»
really need something low-end, inexpensive in order to bring the house up-to-date. I work near Jason Street in Englewod, though, so I'll go and check it out as you suggest. Maybe I'll hit on someone who has something they're trying to get rid of.

Painting: I had the large mirror removed in our bathroom and was shocked to find 30 year old wallpaper.

What is the easiest and efficient way to remove the paper. I plan on doing it myself (hopefuul).

I shared this tip with another post: score the wallpaper then use a mixture of equal parts of ...»
liquid fabric softener (downy or generic) with water. Roll this on with a paint roller or wash it on with a rag. Wait a few and you should be able to peel off the wallpaper. The fabric softener loosens the glue so you can remove it. This is the only thing that worked for my awful project of removing wallpaper from every wall in my current house! (and I tried everything).

Nancy, when I moved in to my current house every wall in it was wallpapered! It was a ...»
nightmare to get most of it down, until someone told me to mix equal parts liquid fabric softener with water. Score the wallpaper and then "paint" this mixture on with a paint roller or simply use a rag to wipe it on. Wait a few minutes and the wallpaper will come right off. Extra bonus? No fumes like the comercial products, it's much more cost effective and smells lovely!
