Cynthia - do you have a straw bed to lay your ripening melons on? Try that, it will keep them
from direct ground contact and should help with the mold or fungus you are experiencing Just put a couple of handfuls of hay under each melon so they are not sitting in dirt. Hope this helps. Also, you can buy a soil test kit at your local garden store or contact your county extension agent and they will do a soil test for you (in my county there is no charge for this service).
Go to your pool supply store with a sample of the water - they will run it and let you know
what chemicals needed to straighten out. They also have a stabilizer now that you put in your skimmer basket that will help maintain your chem levels and keep it from burning off during the sunny parts of day. Your probably gonna need to SHOCK the pool to rid of algea then maintain chem levels so it doesn't come back.
