About Me:

Blogger, wife, mother, interior designer. Before the baby I worked as an interior designer, but now I am using my creativity on our house to make it our home. At work I specialized in healthcare design, so this whole home decor thing is still new and a little intimidating to me. I share about family adventures and my hopes and challenges of raising our little girl in a Christian family where we are constantly being transformed by God. Throw in some cooking and great finds on Pinterest, and there's never a dull moment at Color Transformed Family.

Favorite area of home improvement:

My favorite area of home improvement is transforming rooms with color!

Baby Nursery

An old dresser was transformed into a changing table with a coat of bright yellow paint. Bright colors were used to design a room that will grow with the baby. The dark accent walls provides nice contrast against the bold colors.

Kitchen Spruce Up

Updating our kitchen.

*Options I considered for this project: ...»

A big debate was between stainless steel appliances and black. We chose black.

*Questions and unexpected events that arose during the project:

We received slightly different style cabinets than we had originally ordered, they were already customized, however, and they looked great so we had them installed to stay on track.

* Cost Comments:

~$6000 on materials (oak cabinets, silestone tops, black GE appliances)

~$2000 on labor assistance

*My motivation to do this project:

We wanted to increase the value of our home, while keeping an updated look throughout.

*Project Steps:

We researched updated kitchens, at IKEA, Home Depot, and Lowe's. We knew the main thing we wanted was an island and additional space, so we hired a contractor to guide us along the process and let us know exactly what our options were. Once we solidified a plan, it was off to the races.

Advice:

Kitchen - Do recessed lighting, Do an island, Don't hire a contractor without checking his background/portfolio

Materials:

Oak Cabinets - $0.00

Silestone - $0.00

Appliances - $0.00

We are in the process of renovating our kitchen too and have decided to go with black. Mainly ...»
because I have a double oven that I love that is black. The lower price is a nice perk though plus I still think black looks great.

Spice it up ~ Organizing Your Spice Drawer

Organize your spice drawer with some Mason Jars, and chalkboard paint! This project sat on my back burner for quite awhile. I'm so glad to have it completed. I'm really pleased with how it turned out.
