Flooring: We live in central Florida and would like to change from carpet to wood floor.

We have been told that real hard wood is not a good idea. Is this true? We come from Conn. and are used to hardwood. What would you suggest?

Wood floor has a protective layer on it - which wears out each time you walk on it. Sooner or ...»
later you will need to have the floor maintained ,which means sanding and re-apply the protective layer. A major operation . Depends on the foot traffic you have and what house rules on shoes you have (sand from outside) this comes sooner than later. I have installed my first laminate floor in 1986 and never looked back . Today laminate looks like real wood - without the hassle of any maintenance . Pergo has warranties all up to Lifetime Warranty ! Learn more here : http://pergo.com

Carpets and allergies do not go hand in hand. If you have ever taken up a carpet that was on ...»
the floor for a few years you would be amazed how it looks under there. DUSTY. Hardwood floors are environmental friendly until the protective surface has to be redone and you need to sand and apply polyurethane- which ends the friendly environment. Look deeper into a good quality laminate floor , my favorite is PERGO at http://pergo.com . Laminate floors never need other maintenance than cleaning and the highest quality you can buy is Lifetime. If you have kids and dogs i would never put anything else down than laminate .

Can someone tell me how to get the cat urine smell out of concrete?

We pulled the old indoor/outdoor carpet up in our laundry room and one of the cats started urinating on the concrete. I'd like to get the odor out before we put down anything over the concrete. Thanks!

same spot use WHITE VINEGAR . Read this article: White vinegar is a time tried and proven ingredient that aids in removing both urine stains and the odour. Combine one part distilled white vinegar to two parts warm water to create a spray. Remove as much urine/spray as you can using a paper towels. Mist vinegar spray over areas of cat urine and rub with a paper towel. An alternative method is to mix the solution in a bucket and dip a clean cloth into the liquid. Rub the stain with the vinegar solution. After the vinegar dries, wipe away both solution and stain with warm water.

NO. Laminate floor only looks good when you install it. And yes, you can even seal the joints ...»
against damage of spills. But- having used laminate floor in a kitchen for some time you will have a floor that has dings from dropped pots and pans all over the place. I love laminate floors but they do not belong in a kitchen in my opinion. And that all laminate repairs are as easy as that is most of the time not what happens in reality.

I have installed laminate floors since 1986 and know a little about the good and the bad of it.
