Wish I Had That- Spring!

Today on my blog, I am sharing some views from my house this morning-more snow. Although it is beautiful, I am longing for spring flowers, and I have an array of beautiful images of spring flowers.

  • This is the final wall finished.
  • I first gathered plates in a variety of shapes, colors, and patterns.
  • I traced all the plates onto paper, cut them out, and placed them on the wall. This was a great way to start without hanging plates yet.
  • Then I started to play around with it.
  • I moved things around, deleted some of the plates till I got the pleasing display I wanted.

Creating An Eclectic Wall Plate Arrangement

How I Created My Eclectic Plate Arrangement

Choose a color scheme: If you want to create a plate arrangement like mine, start with ...»

your color scheme. Maybe you already have a vintage plate collection to use, but for me I just started my collection off of newer plates and ones I had in my stash. I decided on white, aqua blue, cobalt blue, and soft green.

Have fun choosing the colors that you want for your plate display, and make it personal to your taste.

Choose a good variety: If achieving an eclectic look like I did, just be sure to mix up all your shapes, patterns and colors that together make a cohesive piece of art on your wall. Nothing too matching, but complimentary to each other.

I stayed within a simple 3-4 color scheme so my plate arrangement didn't get too crazy, and I tried to choose the same values of colors. Nothing too bright as to stick out like a sore thumb.

Choose enough: I had more plates than I ended up using. I was happy to have enough plates to play around with, because as you see below I ended up editing and cutting down the amount of plates I used.

For more about how I created this plate wall, you can see the rest of the post here.. http://www.deniseinbloom.com/plate-arrangeme...

New Crackle Finish Is Fine!

So here goes my first post on Hometalk. I'm loving this site and hope that I can share valuable information to you followers cause I'm sure seeing some good info on here. ...»

Maison Blanche has a new paint product out called "Le Craque" which is a crackle medium for their La Craie paints. Really? Le Craque? LOL. Yep and I have to say I was pleased with its performance. What I like about it is the one step process of simply brushing it on top of the chalk paint. It drys fairly quickly and then you simply add another coat of paint on top in a different color so that the cracks will show. This product delivers more of a fine delicate crackle.

For my project, I chose a table that would look great in a beach house or on a screen porch. All I had to do was sand it to a smooth finish and start my project. When I turned the table upside down I realized this little beauty was made in Hickory, North Carolina. I'm just crazy about finding furniture made in North Carolina that has the original label. Below you'll see the before and afters. I apologize for not having a picture of the first coat of paint with the crackle on top-camera battery dead, got sidetracked and forgot to snap.

After sanding, I painted the table all over with La Craie Confederate Gray, let completely dry, painted on a thin coat of Maison Blanche's Le Craque, let that completely dry, painted on a coat of La Craie's Creme De Menthe, let dry, stenciled with Chicory Spice, let dry and sanded back a little, wet distressed to let gray undercoat show through, then clear waxed. What do you think? Project took about 3.5 hours including drying time.
